They should figure out a way to make all DVDs and videos around the world compatible. But I won't hold my breath on that. The problem is that they made DVDs not compatible around the world for commercial reasons.

However, I thought that they'd not put in the region coding as they can make more money without it. Hmph, human nature.

Yes, capitalism, but short-sighted as this way people who'd like to buy a product find too many problems and give up. Majors came up with all this regions codes to earn more money but eventually it all might end up with a loss besides all the discontent among customers.

Of course, i'll be happy to send anyone the DVD's from england, for the full english price, P&P, and an extra service charge. Lol That won't help me because in case you didn't notice, I'm from the U.S. and there's a bunch of complicated stuff I'd have to do to be able to watch it. home.comcast.net/~smanfred/ Not worth the trouble for just one movie.

Most DVD players have workarounds to make them able to play DVDs with any region code but the real tricky thing is watching a PAL DVD on an NTSC TV set and even if your DVD player has in built format conversion the result doesn't always have good quality so it might not be worth the cost. Hope that the new series is successful enough in the USA to raise interest for the classic series and the TV Movie to have an american DVD edition made.

You can find on eBay very cheap region free players (under $30) that will do a very decent conversion job.
As secondary players to play PAL titles from other regions, they are a good compromise.

Whoa! Talk about going off topic! ;D Anyway, I'd say only buy the TV Movie if you really like it. Otherwise just tape it off the telly, I did.

The TV movie was ok. If not for it, we would not had those splendid audios featuring Paul McGann as the Doctor...

Personally, I thought the TV Movie was awesome! It's real flaw is that it really is a story for the fans, unlike the New Series, which is aimed at those who have never seen Who as well as the fans. On the whole though, speaking as a fan, it is a pretty cool film, and I loved it!

If you`re going to get a multi region dvd player you`re best to go to . oh god I can`t remember the site but google multi media magic and region free dvd player. You want a dvd player that`ll handle enhanced region coding. Basically some dvds send a signal to the dvd player testing and if it plays region 1 and 2 it won`t play the disc.
Oh yeah and back on topic the American telemovie sucked. The British version always concentrated on story and had flimsy effects whilst the american one was all effects and no story. You can bet the half human crap was was something some moron thought would make the doctor seem less alien and viewers relate more to him.

Actually I did tape it off the "telly" but accidentally erased it. I'll just wait and hope they broadcast it again only next time I'll be sure to label the tape.

And to be safer still, invest in a DVD recorder and record it on one of those. I don't forsee videos going on much longer to tell you the truth.

Now this is a topic that I haven't given much thought to. The Movie wasn't that bad. Ok, it wasn't the best, but then again it was produced by BBC, so that changes a few things when the originator of the show doesn't bring it back on TV. I do like the 8th Doctor. HIs books & audio adventures are pretty good. But the movie...it was just alright for me.

Update. Note the date between of the above post and this one. You can no longer see the Doctor Who T.V. movie on YouTube. I clicked on the bookmark and at the top of the page it said the it was removed by the user. Probably a copyright issue. I guess I'm back to hoping it will be broadcast again. Bummer!
