It's got to be the best bit of Earth shock watching the ship explode and knowing that he won't be coming back. Ashley

I've had to vote maybe as I never really saw many of the Davison stories.
(Read them all, and can see how Adric may have come across as an ANNOYING LITTLE TWERP! but I suppose you'd have to see him in the flesh to get the full effect)

I can't believe how much you are all 'bagging out' Adric.
Though I will say that I liked him better with the 5th Doctor than with the 4th!
His death was a part of 'Earth's history' and he did not deserve to die, but it had to happen.
The silence of the end credits after his death showed the respect he deserved!

adric deserves no respect, he couldn't he added nothing to any plot line bar warriors gate and full circle. he was lucky to get as many episodes as he did in my view

You're all just jealous about how often Adric probably scored with Nyssa and Tegan.

Okay, take that image and put a big black block over Adric's rotund adolescent carcass. Can you still see Tegan and Nyssa?
Better?

How come so many of you like Adric. He's just an irritating boffin.
P.S. Adric scoring with Nyssa & Tegan. Which madman thought that one up.
P.P.S. Adric is probably better than Turlough though. Maybe. Did I say that? Not sure.
P.P.P.S. Forget that last comment.

Sigh. This arguement has been done over and over before in other places on the net. Frankly, I think Adric is the most well rounded (and I don't mean his stomach...he was not fat) character from the original tv series, perhaps too well rounded and fully developed. He had problems, he had a background, he had a life and wanted a new one...and until the Doctor regenerated and Romana left, he had a happy new life. Then the Doctor paid more attention to Tegan and Nyssa for no reason other than they were female it would seem. His Doctor, self sure and confident, was now...more like him and less efficient than even himself and the fourth Doctor...anyway fans usually don't like Adric because he's too much like themselves. He was really just like a teenager in many ways and yeah, imperfect. Adric was also not like any other companion before him and probably after him too. No other male companion was a teenager or a boy, no other companion other than perhaps Liz, challenged the Doctor's ideas or wanted to learn so much from him, not even Romana wanted to learn that much from the Doctor. IN the past they were either whining about going home, getting lost or in trouble, or whining about being savages by bug eyed monsters (and as much as I like Sarah Jane Smith, SHE was one of the biggest offenders). Had the writers been better in the 5th Doc era or cared about Adric at all as the previous writers seemed to, Adric would have stayed the course and been more consistent in his characterization. Eric Saward and JNT were probably the biggest offenders of letting Adric's charcater slip...they jsut didn't care and they saw the girls as drawing in more males and dads, unaware that...well, whatever the case may be, Adric was not consistent but in a way that made him all the more like a teenager. Yeah and I've heard the arguement that Matthew Waterhouse was not a great actor...well, duh. But he was good for Doctor Who. Really good in many ways. And maybe he was just nervous on set which is why other actors go on and on about how irritating the actor was, telling others what to do and whatnot. He was inexperienced. And again, I think all that added to Adric's character of being a teen that one could related to. I've never met a real Sarah Jane, Jo Grant, Liz, Tegan or Nyssa but there are real Adrics out there. I think Adric made DW more accessible to younger people and to people who wanted some depth to the charcters other than military men (UNIT bah!). Turlough was absolutely wrong on every level. I also had the feeling that the scripts for season 20 were about replacing Adric with other characters (Damon, the guy that helped Nyssa in Snakedance, etc etc) until Turlough. The other case against Adric is that he helped the bad guys alot. Not true. If you look at his stories, he helped Monarch of is own free will and that's perhaps IT. He was forced by the Master so yeah I'll give you that one maybe. He might have been hynoptized by the vampires but he was playing along to free Romana. Oh well, peeps will not have their minds changed about this issue but whatever. I know that athe charcter had great potential and it was stopped because of many reasons, one being Davison wanted Nyssa, a more trad comp so that he could get the attention.

I accept everything you say, and admit you're probably right on just about every level. Especially the fact that, whether we like it or not, the vast majority of hardcore fans are/were (mentally, if not physically) Adrics; sad geeky adolescent misfits. However, I disagree with what people say about Turlough. I liked him; he was devious, weasely, cunning and weak, always willing to sell-out to the highest bidder, but ultimately as we see in Enlightenment, he did the right thing. Not a very convincing schoolboy though.

Adric...
For this I worship the Cybermen faithfully and gratefully. I think 'Full Circle' should've been his limit if you ask me.
