I don't know why I am thinking this and I am only going on my memory as I haven't re-watched the 2005 series since it was on TV, but;
Was Rose the 9th Doctor's first companion? (assuming that short story with the young girl does happen when the Doctor leaves Rose the first time at the end of the first episode)
In the first episode we see all those pictures of the Doctor at specific times throughout history, but he seems to be by himself.
Therefore if more books were written with the 9th Doctor, of the period before he met Rose, would he just be travelling by himself? Though that's not to say he didn't interact with people whilst at those times in history.
Anyway, I hope I made sense...! ;D

Good point Ice Warrior but unlikely. He couldn't have travelled before Rose though cause in Rose he is looking in the mirror, studying his apperance as if he had just regenerated. So the photos of The Ninth Doctor in history must have happened when he was popping off from Rose for a while, that's possible right?

That's a reasonable assumption. The first several stories seem to occur mostly back to back, but there is a six-month interregnum between "The Doctor Dances" and "Boom Town", so it's probabaly not a bad assumption that he took a side trip or three from both Rose and Jack during this break.

You have both brought up some valid points! It is a good point that the 'regeneration comment', The Doctor makes about his own ears, could suggest he did only recently regenerate.
There fore if the 8th Doctor can take 3 or so years to come back to a companion, I suppose it is possible that the 9th Doctor would take a while to get back to Rose.

Ah, but in "The End of the World" he references clinging to an iceberg to Jabe. Which would mean that the whole Titanic thing had already happened to him. So leaving Rose and Capt. Jack at a later point in time and going back wouldn't quite gel. Remember Clive said that the Daniels family (and friend) were set to sail on the unsinkable ship. The Doctor may have rescued the Daniels and then boarded the ill-fated ship to finish whatever needed finishing. Who's to say (no pun intended) that a recently regenerated Doctor (following the Time War) didn't have a few one off adventures prior to meeting Rose? He'd have been depressed following the Time War and the loss of his people. It's interesting that the photos Clive has are of some rather depressing historical happenings. (Krakatoa, the shooting of JFK, the Titanic.) (This sort of circular logic will give you fits. LOL.)

Doctor Who is put simply, a set of contradictions (though that doesn't stop me from enjoying it!). As to the images of the Doctor as produced by Clive, I should think that at the end of 'Rose' he popped off, adventured for a bit, then came back. But as for the Captain Jack and Rose scenario I think I'll watch the series again on DVD to make sure.

If Clive was that through, how come he didn't have any pictures or references to the previous incarnations of the Doctor?
Ok, he does say to Rose "this is your Doctor here, isn't it?" but I would have thought they could have included other references.

Perhaps Clive did have other pictures of the Doctor, it's just that he didn't think them relevant at the time?

That or the production crew didn't want to show a lot of the show's past so early in the series; it might have been a tad too much for the newer viewers to take in.

What I think would've been good, when Captain Jack was talking about the the Weapons Factory at Villenguard in 'The Empty Child', there could've been a line where Jack says the security cameras caught a picture of someone just before it blew up, and then he hands to the Doctor and Rose a picture of the 4th, 2nd or 3rd Doctor. That would've been good! ;D

Perhaps they could've included a few shots of Rose walking around inside the TARDIS and she spots a portrait of one of the Doctor's past selves, say the 1st, 5th or 8th Doctor?
