I personally think his performance in 'The Time Meddler' was good. Especially the scene with him and Steven early on in part one. I do actually remember this and totally agree.

I wonder what the show would've been like if the First and Second Doctors swapped places personality wise?

I wonder what the show would've been like if the First and Second Doctors swapped places personality wise? It probably wouldn't have been as big a success. Going from a happy almost clown-ish figure to a grumpy old man probably not a winner.

Having re-watched 'An Unearthly Child' I think Hartnell was a brilliant introduction to The Doctor and he was totally suitable.
A true man of authority!
The only bad casting choice was Susan.

I quite like Susan myself. I also imagine that she (much like Rose was) was a lure to bring young people to watch the show.

I've never seen the first Doctor but i have been reading alot of his story's, i think he's a good doctor if not one of the best if it was'nt for him doctor might not have been the big thing it is today.
((then again if it was'nt for any of the Doctors it would'nt be as big))

Yes I suppose she was meant to lure the younger audience, and in the 60's she probably did, looking at it from today's perspective though, I highly dislike Susan's character, simply a personal opinion!

The first two Doctors had many teenagers as companions, surely because the show was aimed to a young audience.

Hmm interesting...
It is true that there were a number of teenage, or young adult companions of the first 2 Doctors. Because the next companions are slightly older, to me at first it seemed weird when Ace joined the Doctor as she was a 'teenager'.

When something like that happens you know they're desperate for the ratings. ;D

I gave him 5 out of 10 because he sometimes got his lines muddled up but some of his other performances were good but others not so good so i put just average.

Looks like I saw the first doctor as better than everyone else- gave him a 9.

8/10. A little too grouchy, and i think his character was never the same after Susan left, who I think was a underrated companion.

Susan DID affect his personality a lot.
