A few months ago I recall seeing a press-release photo of the new cybermen. Below is a link to that photo. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CybermanAt the time I remember thinking to myself "There's something familiar about the design." There are, I think, elements of C3PO about it, but there's also something else. Check out this link and see if you agree that, intentional or otherwise, there are hints of Space Marine in there... www.eris.net/~johan/gallery/london-amsterdam/dscn1124.jpg

The new cybermen lack something to me. They look more robot than cyborg. Actually it looks more like an iron scultpure. I`m assuming it`s supposed to be an earlier cyberman because it looks a lot less technologically advanced then than the cybermen from the Baker era onwards

I quite agree.
It doesn't look like it has the same flexibility and fluidity of movement of any of the previously seen cybermen.
Presumably the designers thought that the new audience would want something markedly less human in appearance; something that might not just be a bloke in a rubber suit?

i always found the cybermen costumes of those from the moonbase to the invasion were the best. the smaller heads seemed to work better than earmuff design. whereas the invasion cybermen suits look alot better than those latter on, eg sliver nemesis

Earmuffs or not, I've always found it a little odd that the majority of cyberman designs don't have a moving neck. Surely if you want to create a mechanical body that emulates that of a human, you give it a head capable of turning and raising/lowering (!)

The new design looks great!... At least from the neck down.
I think they should have kept to the original head design as much as possible!

Oh, I think they look waaaaay too close to the Ultimate Iron Man armor created about two years ago. That armor was designed by someone named Bryan Hitch, I believe. Where have I heard THAT name before? Somebody photoshopped Iron Man's color scheme on the new Cybermen a month or so ago...and I tell ya...

Whatever the new cybermen look like, they will never beat the classic look of the cybermen in The Tenth Planet. *That* really was a televison event Dom

They could be a intermediate stage between the early cybermen from the tenth planet and the later more metalic ones

You have to remember, this takes place on an alternate Earth... so these are an Alternate Reality's version of the Cybermen. Who's to say (pardon the pun) that the versions we fondly remember even existed in that reality?

Well - - it's been remarked upon over at Outpost Gallifrey. Sorry if that was a spoiler, but I didn't think it would be.
Rose's Dad is alive and shilling merchandise for Cybex. Alternate Earth.

Ah, right.
cool!
Would I be right in saying that Inferno has been the only other serial to feature an alternate version of Earth?

Television series-wise. I'm pretty sure that's the only one to slip into a parallel dimension.
I'd be surprised if they didn't do it in the books and audios.
