How Would You Rate The Second Doctor?

How would you rate the second Doctor, Patrick Troughton? I gave him a ten, as you can tell from my avatar he's my all time favourite.

I'd actually give him 9.5 but I rounded it up to 10. My 2nd fave doctor.

Patrick Troughton was a very good Doctor. In fact his low point has to be the story 'The Underwater Menace' , utterly absurd in my opinion. But I'd say his high point is 'The Evil of the Daleks'.

For me his low point would be 'The Space Pirates' and his high point would be either 'The War Games' or as you say 'Evil of the Daleks'

To be truthful I rather enjoyed watching the 2nd Doctor in 'The Three Doctors' and then in 'The Five Doctors'. Good viewing.

It's just a shame how 'The Two Doctors' turned out though, it had such potential and not even Patrick Troughton or Colin Baker could save this one for me, goes down as the 3rd Worst Colin Baker story in my books. I believe Troughton deserved a better send off than that, seeing as it's his last Doctor Who appearance and that he died two years later aged 67, shame and it was nearly his birthday too.

I much prefer Troughton over Hartnell. This is where the Doctor first becomes eccentric IMO, and Troughton pulled that off perfectly.

I think of all of Troughton's missing episodes the one of the most desperately sought after stories has to be 'Fury of the Deep'. Also 'The Power of the Daleks' is quite famous for being the only Dalek story with all episodes missing, that's if you count 'Mission to the Unknown' as part of 'The Daleks' Masterplan'. But for me the story I'd be most keen to see returned and then released would be, in my opinion Troughton's best, 'The Evil of the Daleks', at leat part 2 still exists so you can have a glimpse at it.

9/10 because no one is perfect. I enjoyed this doctor, he was very merry.

Troughton was a great Doctor, but did the supporting character of Jamie improve it? What did others think of Jamie?


And honestly, is there anyone out there who did not enjoy/appreciate Patrick Troughton?

I quite like Jamie as a character. Like Leela, having a companion who isn't savvy of technology is a nice change.

When Patrick Troughton first took on the role it wasn't very well received by a certain number of people that's for sure, the majority of the population warmed to him over time.

I give him 10/10 because he had the right mix of humour without being embaressing very much like tom baker. The assistants were pretty interesting as were the monsters and indeed the stories especially in the run up to his last season.

He was great. I loved him as a kid in the sixties and still like him more than all the rest (except TB) nowadays. Especially the stories where you didn't know if he was really clever or just lucky. Which seemed to be most of them. Mind you his scripts weren't overly loaded with techno-babble and he had space to be quite a comedian. Best of all I never knew if he was an old man who behaved young or a young man with a very old face.

Hmm, some characters (not as in fictional that is) had the nerve to compare the Second Doctor to a clown. Oooh, the cheek!

It's the tendancies of the Second Doctor that make me like him. Eccentric, not quite right in the head and wit: The Good Stuff! ;D
