Hello again, I've been spending the afternoon writing this, it fits in with my series of Paul McGann synopsis from another thread which can be found here:
drwhoguide.proboards84.com/index.cgi?board=fanfiction&action=display&thread=1149065264
So please do read it, it's the first part of a two part story synopsis, if you like it I'll write the conclusion
'The Beast of the Night'
Part One
In the dark depths of Victorian London a young girls walks alone. As she makes her way home amidst the fog she hears a scuffling noise behind her but when she turns there is nothing but a horse and cart trundling along in the background.
However as she turns to the way she is heading a cloaked figure engulfs her and as her scream rings out in the crisp winter night she falls to the floor, dead. A police officer runs to approach and the cloaked figure disappears into the night and as the policeman examines the body he realises she is another victim of Jack the Ripper.
At the docks of the city the TARDIS screeches into land, and the Doctor, Malix and Lysana walk outside; the Doctor in his usual Edwardian garb, Lysana in an elegant dress and Malix in a shirt and waistcoat. The two Time Lord’s companions ask why they are present in London in 1888 and he explains that the scanner has located high levels of residual energy in the area, which is not coming from an human. He uses a portable scanner to follow the traces and the three friends walk off into the night.
At the morgue the body of the girl is examined and the coroner, a man named George Millington, concludes that her body has bee drained of blood via a large gaping wound on her neck. He turns to write it in his file but as he does so he is hit on the back of the head, branding him unconscious, and the cloaked figure who has hit him advances to the young girl’s body; picks it up and carries it away.
The Doctor, Malix and Lysana arrive in the street the attack took place and a police officer informs them as to what has been going on. He mentions Jack the Ripper and the Doctor informs his companions of the legends of the infamous murdered, before pondering that he assumed that he had fought the true Ripper many lifetimes ago, when he discovered the stranded Weng Chiang. He breaks off and decides to follow the scanner again and he and his friend set off, only when Lysana looks back at the crime scene, falling behind she is grabbed from behind and disappears from sight.
The Doctor and Malix split up to find her. The Doctor finds himself back at the docks and is preparing to leave when the scanner bleeps, revealing a fresh trace of residual energy. He excitedly begins to follow it and sets off into the night, as several streets and back alleys away; Malix is hot on the heels of Lysana’s captor.
As he weaves his way around the city he finds himself stuck at a large tower, blocked by a heavily bolted door. He takes out the staser gun he has concealed in his waistcoat and blasts the lock but the blast is deflected, it is not of human manufacture. He looks through the keyhole to see a set of stairs leading deep beneath the ground then reluctantly runs back to find the Doctor.
The Time Lord weaves his way around the city before finding himself at the door of a morgue and is about to go in when the scanner shows the next trace, leading off in the opposite direction. He continues his journey just as a hooded figure begins to follow him from the background. It stops in its tracks and watches the Doctor leave before turning back.
Malix arrives back at the docks but finds no sign of the Doctor. He prepares to start searching again when he hears a scream some streets away. He goes to find the source and when he arrives finds a dead girl, her neck ripped open, lying on the floor and the culprit of the attack fleeing in the distance. He prepares t run after it but is caught by a policeman, who believes he is the murdered.
The Doctor finds himself at the large tower and prepares to blast the lock with the sonic screwdriver when the hooded figure taps him on the shoulder. It unmasks itself and reveals itself to be another young girl, named Sophia Blackwater, whose sister is one of the victims and is now looking to seek revenge on the perpetrator of the crime. She explains that she saw the Doctor following the trace after talking to the policeman some time earlier and asks to help him. He agrees and she tells him she has a file of evidence on the killer, which she keeps at home. The Doctor leaves the tower door and together they walk off.
Lysana awakes in a darkened room, strapped to an operating table surrounded by dozens of phials and complicated experiments. In the distance a hooded man prepares a syringe of glowing liquid and prepares to inject her with it. She realises it is no use screaming as her mouth has been gagged, before looking around at other unconscious girls strapped to tables, all at several different points of mutilation, all pale with bloodless open gaze.
Malix is thrown in a cell guarded by other policemen and sits pondering what to do. As the men talk about the rewards from catching a killer the young man sees the Doctor walking outside through his window. He tries to cal out but is silenced by the guards and he is left to sulk alone.
The Doctor and Sophia arrive at the young girls house. Once inside she shows him the various newspaper clippings and files she has either collected or stolen on the murderer and the Time Lord begins to look at the artist’s impressions of the beast, and with a stinging realisation realises who, or rather what the murder really is. He flees from the house, back to the tower as Sophia runs in tow.
Lysana writhes in struggle as her captor prepares to inject her. As he leans over she can hear a snarling voice telling her to settle down…it will all be over soon…
The Doctor and Sophia flee through the streets and arrive back at the tower. As the Doctor tries to open the lock with the sonic screwdriver he explains to his would-be companion that the true murderer is a Fangrin beast, a half man half wolf-like creature from the planet Fangris. It feeds on blood in order to sustain its natural form, otherwise it decays to dust. At feeding it gives off large amounts of residual energy, the traces he has been investigating. He goes on to explain that in order for a Fangrin beast to be on Earth it must have been exiled, and to be exiled for crimes unacceptable even to the vicious planet of Fangris it must be very nasty indeed.
As Lysana cowers the attacker approaches, and pierces her skin with the serum. It rips the gag from her mouth then prepares to grab her neck but she screams, demanding to know who the man is. The figure leans back and takes of its hat, then reaches for its hood. It pulls it back over his head and removes a cloth mask from his face to reveal a makeshift human face, disfigured as if in the midst of a transformation of a werewolf. The human skin is stretched over the skull of a dog and small hairs line the deeper crevices of the skill. The eyes are un-human and stare blankly at her, whilst the pointed ears twitch gently at the sound of her voice.
The sonic screwdriver runs out of power and the Doctor curses, but Sophia gives him hope when she explains that perhaps there is a window on the other side of the tower. They run around the streets to find the adjacent side of the building but there is no point of entrance, only a drain pipe leading up to the roof where the Doctor suspects there could be some sort of escape hatch. He begins to clime and Sophia gamely follows.
The beast tells Lysana of its past, how it was banished from its home planet of Fangris for committing acts of cannibalisation in order to survive. It was sent to Earth in a glowing ship, like a shooting star, which sank into the Thames. Lysana asks why it does not simply return to the ship and find another world but he explains that it was rigged by his own people so he could not activate the controls. He then yelps in pain and explains that there is not much time, his body is weakening and the serum he injected Lysana with to calm her down will soon take effect. Sure enough as he watches her through unforgiving eyes she passes out and he prepares to feast…
The Doctor and Sophia arrive on top of the tower and, as the Time Lord suspected, there is an escape hatch waiting for them. This one is not sealed by alien technology and he opens it, revealing a long winding staircase leading down into the depths of the tower. He takes Sophia’s hand and together they prepare to descend, closing the hatch behind them.
In his cell Malix sits and thinks. The guards stand with their backs to him and he reaches thoughtfully for his staser gun but then realises its power has been drained. He gets up and looks at the decaying bars on his window, and takes out a length of wire from his waistcoat pocket. He tries to conceal his actions as he carves away into the rusty bars and smiles to himself in near triumph.
The Fangrin beast prepares to bite Lysana’s neck but a small signal device warns him other life forms have broken into the tower. He puts on his mask, hat and hood then picks up a pistol and exits from the room, as Lysana’s would-be unconscious hand begins to move.
The beast strides up the stair as the Doctor and Sophia stealthily walks down towards him, passing the locked door. The beast meets them on the darkened stairwell and raises his gun, before opening fire.
Malix props the broken bars back in place before turning to his two guards. He reaches through the bars of his cell then knocks their heads together, rendering them unconscious. He leaps forward, grabbing his charging staser and bonds through the loose bars, out into the night. He recovers from the jump then runs off into the night, heading for the tower.
Lysana finds her bonds have loosened with all of her struggling and begins to wriggle free of them, but as she does a loud thumping sound issues from a giant vat behind her. She hurriedly struggles with her bonds as a gunshot rings out from outside.
Sophia falls down dead and the Doctor looks on is distain. The beast tries to fire at him but the Doctor attacks him, struggling and toppling down the staircase to the laboratory below. There he sees Lysana and the unsettled vat. He takes the gun and aims it at the beast but it flees back up the stairs. The Time Lord fires and misses as the beast shuts the door, locking it.
Malix arrives at the tower and as he approaches the door flies open and the masked beast flees into the night. He pursues it and they run into the foggy clouds of the night. As the creature gains ground away from him Malix watches him jump onto a moving cab. He does the same, telling the driver to follow the one before him and a chase ensures.
As the Doctor frees Lysana he tells her that the vat must contain what the beast has been experimenting on with the different mounds of equipment around him, it has been attempting to create some kind of killer servant and has been using the mutilated bodies as spare parts. The metal walls of the vat are dented from within as the creature inside begins to break free and as the Doctor struggles in vein to open the locked door, Lysana looks on helplessly.
The two carriages pursue each other relentlessly through the night, thundering down streets and swerving around corners. They begin to approach London Bridge and as the carts cross, Malix sees the cloaked figure dive into the Thames. The time traveller looks at the disrupted water as the cloaked figure make sits way to the depths of the river and disappears from sight. He steadies himself on the side of the cart them launches off of the bridge, down into the murky water.
Inside the Laboratory the vat begins to give way and a bloodstained mutilated hand, covered in cuts and scars, punches a hole in the side. Lysana screams and the Doctor continues to struggle with the door as the creature’s arm flexes with life…
To be continued.
So there you have the first part, I hope you like it; please do let me know if you think it's worth writing the second part.
Thanks,
Dominic
