The Anomaly of Ten
(This is very much a work in progress and to seperate comment from story, I will use blue for the story. Comments greatly appreciated!)
The Doctor and his female companion Rose walked through the door of the TARDIS in what appeared to be a cheerful mood. They had just had what the Doctor may call typical, but Rose would only see it as an unusual, Christmas day. Both were exhausted and the decision was made to leave Earth in search of rest. The location was to be, in Rose’s words, ‘alien but friendly… as well as peaceful!’
‘Well that was a delightful Christmas dinner don’t you think Rose?’
‘I’ll say! I’ve got to admit Doctor, I haven’t had such a good meal since I joined you on the TARDIS.’ She meant it too.
‘What? You’re not fond of synthesised foods?’ asked the Doctor in a mocking voice whilst fiddling with the central console, ‘It’s good for you, you know!’
‘How can it be good for me if it has no taste?’
‘Insignificant detail’ replied the Doctor. He finished checking the console and turned to Rose, ‘All is in order. We are on our way.’ The Doctor led Rose away from the console room to a room where they could sit on something more comfortable.
‘On our way where exactly?’ Rose wasn’t sure if she wanted to ask this question, but felt she needed to be cautious because she wasn’t assured whether the Doctor had fully recovered from his ‘regeneration’
‘A planet called Dido… it has a unique scent’, The Doctor was genuinely looking for ward to revisiting this particular planet, ‘It sure has been a while since I last visited, I hope no one decided to blow it up while I was gone.’
Rose was horrified at the Doctor’s ease at which he said those words. ‘Blow it up? How can you think that?’
‘Oh come on Rose, Alderaan isn’t the only planet ever to be blown up you know. I do take it seriously, relax will you?
Rose lay down on the couch which she had claimed as her own ever since she had entered the TARDIS. She liked this couch. The material, a dark blue shade, was nothing she had known from Earth though she thought it felt like a mix of a feathery leather covering. The Doctor took his usual seat and to Rose’s surprise, took the pair of reading glasses from the small table. Rose also noted for the first time that there was a monocle sitting on the table as well and laughed silently to herself. The glasses didn’t look like they had been touched for a long, long time and the Doctor took a while to get rid of all the dust which had collected upon them. He was half-way towards putting them on when Rose decided to ask him a question.
‘Whilst we are on the topic of being serious, Doctor, there is something I want to you tell me, no escapes, no changing subject, ok?’
‘Fire away’
‘When you first told me what the TARDIS could do, you said it could move in both time and space right?
‘Mmm’, The Doctor wasn’t quite sure where Rose was going with this, but he had an inkling and he didn’t like that inkling one bit.
‘So why don’t we visit your home planet?’
‘I told you it got blown up, remember? Big war! Only a few survivors…’
‘But you can travel in time, how can you tell me that you can’t go back?’
‘It just isn’t possible ok? It’s really very complicated too.’ All of a sudden the whole of the TARDIS vibrated for about ten seconds. The Doctor got out of his seat and headed for the console.
‘Wait a minute, your not getting out of it that easily Doctor, tell me!’ Rose found herself chasing after him at a steady running pace.
‘Did you just feel that vibration?’
‘Stop avoiding it.’
‘Look Rose, that vibration doesn’t normally happen, if you really want me to I will explain later, but right now I need to find out what has happened to us.’
‘It can’t be that bad, surely. I thought the TARDIS was unpredictable at the best of times.’
The Doctor ignored Rose, staring slightly puzzled at the controls. Nothing seemed to be out of order or overloading. He took a look a look at the co-ordinates, ‘Now it makes sense’ he mumbled, mostly to himself.
‘So was the vibration anything in particular?’ Rose didn’t really want to know, she just wanted to get back to their previous topic of conversation.
‘Yes actually it was’
As I said before it is a rough start. I am attempting to involve all Ten Doctors either directly or Indirectly!
