I'm in the process of writing a version of Dalek history, filling in the gaps so to speak between the television stories. I started this morning and what follows is a rough copy of the history dating from the creatures creation up until the events in 'Evil of the Daleks'. See what you think
Skaro: The Early Years
As the universe expanded since the dawn of the big bang new galaxies were formed, each with their own planets and suns, a planet known as Skaro flourished in its solar system, a tropical paradise.
On the planet, a race of humanoid beings came to populate planet. Their united name was lost throughout the ages but when they separated, because of views about how the planet was run, they each adopted new names; the Dals and the Thals. They managed to live together on the planet, drawing boundary lines that separated them and the crossing of these was not seen as a big offence, but as the Dals managed to hunt their land empty, it became necessary to them to that the Thal’s bountiful food supplies needed to be tapped.
The Thals were opposed to this invasion and the barbaric methods used to obtain their food. They ordered them to leave but the Dals did not head their warning and sure enough a battle began.
The War and the Evolution of the Dals
The Thals began to fight back and over the centuries of battle the war escalated as the two races grew in technological power, using bigger and more dangerous weapons to smite each other.
The battles soon ended, with the Dals using radioactive weaponry to attack the Thals. The Thals homes and bases were destroyed and they regressed to living in the burnt out forests of the planet, as peaceful beings just looking for peace.
The Dals meanwhile began to suffer from their own weapons, and slowly began to mutate into horrific relics of their former selves, and began to conceal themselves in casings designed to help them live. Retreating to their metal city they remained alone, bitterly blaming the Thals for what had happened to them.
The Rise of the Scientist
However one scientist, who had worked extensively on weapons manufacture, managed to cure himself at the early signs of mutation. He remained humanoid and helped to design the casings, which would house his fellow Dals. He tried to rectify the mistakes and limitations the machines held but the others, who now christened themselves Daleks, banished him from their city.
He fled to other Dal bases, which were still fighting against the Thals. There he began to help redevelop weapons, and contributed to the naming of the race, as the Dals believed their namesake, which meant ‘Warrior’ in their native dialect, was no longer relative to their current situation. The scientist suggested the name ‘Kaled’ and when asked what it meant he simply replied ‘Forward’.
Slowly the scientist began to realise that the Kaleds were evolving, become what he had seen before with his fellow Dals. He set about tailoring the casings he had designed before, making them more advanced and portable than the restricted versions he had left behind. Working through the war outside and the accidents that left him in a wheelchair he perfected the machinery to the highest order, sealing his name in Skaro lore…Davros.
The First Daleks and the Coming of the Doctor
The Daleks Davros left behind faced turbulent times after his departure. Left with no scientific brain to move their progress forward they became reliant on radioactive radiation in order to live. Restricted to their city they became bent on destroying the Thals, whom they believed had led them into a war that left them a shadow of their former selves. As time went on they bided their time, until a visitor to their planet became a catalyst to their apparent downfall and their rise to power that followed.
A stranger known as the Doctor and his companions strayed into their city and when forced, helped them to lure the Thals into an ambush. However this trap led to little revenge, with only one Thal being caught up in the crossfire.
The travellers then helped the Thals to mount an attack on the city, and stopped the detonation of the neutron bomb that they planned to use to finally destroy the Thals and allow them to leave their city. In the attack the Daleks were destroyed and the city left to rust, as the Thals won a victory that allowed them to begin life again.
The Rise of the Daleks
However the city held secrets that neither the Doctor not the Thals had imagined possible. For the Daleks had prepared for extinction and a s soon as they died inbuilt distress signals beamed out to other hidden parts of the city, which hosed production lines ready to create more Dalek material. The mutated waste of other Dals, fished from the great lakes was placed in new casings and rolled out onto the city. However the machinery had worn with time and malfunctions soon began to occur. Fortunately the impurities that began to develop worked to the new Daleks strength. New functions and abilities emerged. The creatures were no longer dependant on static electricity and had a much increased brain capacity. As the production line rolled the city once again became more populated, by a new army.
Development and Space Travel
The Daleks began to develop space ships and devices capable of letting them function on alien worlds. As they begin to examine the stars above they discover the planet Earth. The large population could be perfect as slaves.
They decide to take the planet by force and use it to pilot around the universe. It will act as a secondary base for a new taskforce. The Daleks will take the universe by force, all life will bow down before the might of the Daleks and no being shall stand in their way.
Invading Earth and Time Travel
A taskforce is sent to take over planet Earth and after substantial success resistance begins to pick up and the figure known as the Doctor helps to overthrow the Dalek rule. The ships sent to conquer the planet are destroyed and the Daleks are left on Skaro.
Whilst exterminating investigating troops of Thals, the Daleks are forced to defend themselves when a group of figures known as Time Lords invade the planet, looking to investigate the Daleks following the events on Earth. They are however taken off guard by the seemingly abandoned city when the Daleks burst out into the open and shoot them all down.
They find the invaders ship and discover it works as a means of travelling throughout time. After redeveloping the controls to fit Dalek operatives, they prepare to take off.
Meanwhile Dalek Intelligence has discovered that the figure known as the Doctor as visited them before. He is a dangerous threat and must be stopped. An order is sent out to the Daleks in charge of the time machine to pursue the Doctor and his friends throughout time. They must be stopped.
The Mechanoids and the Universal Dalek Empire
With their time machine now destroyed and the Doctor still at large the Daleks set about looking for bigger mountains to climb. They work on developing their own means of time travel and having made a rudimentary machine based on the design notes made on their original one, set about ready to conquer and destroy.
Soon they are the rulers of several planets, and begin to set about conquering Earth again. In time they become the rulers of a massive empire, and work on a master plan in destroying all that stands against them. With the development of the Time Destructor they prepare to set about ruling the universe one and for all.
The Fall of the Dalek Empire and the Exploration of New Worlds
With the Time Destructor used against them the much-depleted number of Daleks soon loose control of their empire. Retiring to Skaro to think of new plans and recover from their losses, the Daleks have to start developing again. Their time machine has been destroyed and the designs for it are gone, stolen in a Thal raid. As more and more battle with the now more militant Thals continue to deplete their numbers and the production line has been vandalised, the Daleks send out another ship to find materials with which to rebuild the machinery. They do so but before it can be reactivated they crash land and the power on the ship is drained, leaving them alone to decay.
The Rise of the Emperor and the Final End
The Daleks sent to help find repairs for the production line have been destroyed. The last Daleks on Skaro are left to rebuild their own race by converting the mutations from the swamps. Meanwhile, the head Dalek is growing in brain capacity and needs to be re-cased. A new casing, much bigger than the last is built deep within the city and when the brain is transplanted and activated it roars that it has found a new way to expand the Dalek race. Even though production of new Dalek material is slowly getting up to speed he plans to implant the very essence of Dalek being into more susceptible beings. Having invaded Earth several times mankind appears to be the easiest target. He decides that before these experiments are conducted the Daleks will experiment with using the human factor to give themselves the qualities that allow humans to always win against them.
They have also received a report from the doomed patrol sent to repair the production line; the Doctor is still at large, only this time with a different appearance. He has the brain capacity to help carry out the experiments. A new form of travel is required to find a way to Earth without looking too conspicuous. With the use of mirror technology linked with and experiment in time travel being conducted on Earth, a Dalek taskforce is sent forward to complete the experiments with the Human Factor.
