For in lurking about I see a decided lack of estrogen on this particular forum. In a way, that's really a good thing. So many of those boards wander off into the weeds of angsty fanfic.
I'm an archaeologist from Maryland, married to an older Englishman from Eastbourne. We have two adorable children, aged 3 and 7.
We're watching the new episodes on both BBC America and SciFi, but he's seen all the old ones, including the really really old ones, probably including the few now lost to time . . . I think I've seen parts of one or two of the older shows, and that probably 15-odd years ago over someone's shoulder.
So I have a question. This may seem a rather stupid one to those who have paid more attention, but bear with me. I have, from the few episodes I've seen, the impression that the Doctor comes from a planet (Gallifrey, I've read) which was destroyed at some point. He's hinted darkly that he may perhaps have had something to do with that, but declined to pursue the topic further (or was distracted from it by some convenient emergency). The obvious question becomes, if it's a time machine, can't he go back and fix things? Prevent it from happening, or prevent events from getting to that point?
Oh, and there was a quick throwaway line where he said, "I was a father once." and Rose did a double-take and said, "What did you just say?" and then some distraction occurred and it was never revisited. Is there anything in the earlier episodes that sheds light on all this, or is it a topic the writers are only just now deciding to explore?
Thanks,
Jennie
