John Leeson as both K-9 Marks I and II is superb. Definitely worth passing the time hearing him as both K-9s while waiting to see another model of the metal dog in the new TV series episode School Reunion & the spinoff K-9 Adventures on Australian TV.
Lynda Bellingham reprises her role as the Inquisitor from the classic Doctor Who (Colin Baker) serial The Trial of A Time Lord and it's nice to hear her again. Although the Inquisitor's name is still not mentioned the credits in the CD sleeve has her character named nas Darkel.
Miles Richardson as Braxiatel (also playing the character in the Benny audio series, another spin-off) is also worth a mention.
As to the plot it is not spectacular.
When I first heard about the Gallifrey series starring Lalla Ward as President Romana and Louise Jameson as Leela I was underwhelmed since they are among my least favourite characters.
It probably also did not help that in the two years between Weapon of Choice's release starring the female President Romana in 2004 and me finally getting it, that I have seen female Presidents in Battlestar Galactica & Commander In Chief.
Coincidentally I got to listen to Weapon of Choice a week after the announcement of the Battlestar Galactica prequel series Caprica. Therefore parallels between Gallifrey and Caprica did not escape me (since people have made comparisons between the new Doctor Who and the new Battlestar Galactica):
They are both named after planets.
Gallifrey and Caprica takes place before the new versions of Doctor Who & Battlestar Galactica respectively. The Gallifrey audio series takes place before the new Doctor Who TV series since Gallifrey is mentioned to be destroyed; Caprica takes place before the planet's fall to the Cylons in Battlestar Galactica.
Remarkable timing.
