I have read all the Ninth Doctor novels and i thought this was by far one of the best.
;D especially Jack, although i do wish he had played a more important role in the Novel.

I enjoyed this novel although not as much as others. I agree it's a pity that Jack plays a lesser role in the narrative but the parts he is in are some of the best in the book, especially his diary entries.

Very strange story and I don't really know where I stand with it. On one hand I thought it a clever idea but on the other it was dull and uninteresting. The author also left Captain Jack out which was a bit odd. Some more time thinking over the story and I'm sure the author could have found a better plot for Jack than babysitter.

The most terrifying scene from this book is what happened to Tina when she visited the Grey Door. The monsters in this story is that of the Hy-Bractors and based on Roberts’ description they looked very monstrous. Quite disturbing what happened to Rose during the course of this story. Comedic bits in this book included diary entries from Jack and Das. Amusing bits included Das explaining his understanding of lies and Jack explaining why he has to hide crisps from Das. In fact Jack babysitting Das feels like the early roots to Roberts’ later comic strip story and then its TV adaptation The Lodger. Jackie makes a cameo here and it is funny how Roberts slotted her in here. Jack and Jackie would later be seen together on television in the season 34 finale Journey’s End. Journey’s End did not state explicitly that this was the first time that Jack and Jackie had met each other therefore no contradiction to Jack meeting Jackie in Only Human. Overall a standout novel from Gareth Roberts.
