Released in 2020, Delia Derbyshire: The Myths And The Legendary Tapes is a feature-length movie about Delia Derbyshire, musician and composer of electronic music, well known for realising the Doctor Who theme composed by Ron Grainer.
Derbyshire is played here by Caroline Catz who also wrote and directed this feature which originated as a short film screened at the BFI London Film Festival in 2017.
As well as depiction of the events concerned this film also incorporates real-life interviews of those who knew the real Derbyshire who had died in 2001.
Derbyshire’s realisation of the Doctor Who theme makes up a little part of this fascinating film about her as it details her fascination with electronic music as a young child to her work in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and her life after she left the said Workshop.
Also pretty good at the end with Catz as Derbyshire as a voice-only ghost as she reflects on how she is remembered.
