Masterful is an audio story from Big Finish and made to mark the 50th anniversary since the Master first appeared in Doctor Who.
Released on January 2 2021, exactly fifty years to the day of the Master's debut in Part 1 of Terror of the Autons.
Written by James Goss.
With this story marking 50 years of the Master, this has eight actors who either first played the Master on television or only on Big Finish with that of Geoffrey Beevers, Mark Gatiss, Derek Jacobi, Alex Macqueen, Milo Parker, Eric Roberts, John Simm, and Michelle Gomez.
Also featuring Katy Manning as Jo Grant and Jon Culshaw as Kamelion.
Like original Master Roger Delgado, Katy too made her Doctor Who debut in Terror of the Autons. So it was only right she gets to be in Masterful as she was there when the Master first started.
Kamelion, as played by the late Gerald Flood, was the Master's slave on television.
Now played by Jon Culshaw, Kamelion is back as the Master's slave.
Fascinating start when the said Masters came to a castle and found out why they all there and how Jo got into all this.
Then something happened which led them being separated.
Fascinating highlights including what happened when the Macqueen Master found himself on the colony ship, the Beevers Master pleasant of where he ended up and did not appreciate when the Roberts Master turned up and Missy and Jo spending a lot of time together.
Prior to learning about Masterful I had wondered what would happen if Jo had met Missy and Masterful certainly provided this answer satisfactory.
While this in general has been a very enjoyable 50th anniversary Master story, the ending had me baffled.
