Saw the animation of Patrick Troughton’s debut as the Second Doctor, The Power of the Daleks at a cinema where it was a presented as a movie although someone forgot to remove the Episode One on-screen credit. A very enjoyable adventure to launch the adventures of the Second Doctor and the animation is well made. This takes place on the planet Vulcan and yes it is the same name as Spock’s home planet in Star Trek and The Power of the Daleks aired in the same year Star Trek made its debut in 1966. Quite creepy especially with the music of the sinisterness of the Daleks and how scientist Lesterston mistakenly being the force of good only to eventually find out otherwise eventually. The Doctor was certainly right in response to the comment that the Daleks will end the colony’s Love Ben’s comment that Quinn is the deputy governor so that means he wants to be governor. Very good deduction as every deputy want to be the boss. As the Second Doctor’s debut ends it was quite creepy that last shot of this story. The Power of the Daleks animation included touches to modern day Doctor Who and one such touch is that of a white suited man carrying Polly with her long hair hanging down and that immediately made me think of the Eleventh Doctor carrying Amy with her long hair hanging down in Asylum of the Daleks. After the screening of the Power of the Daleks movie came the documentary Destination: Vulcan which into the recording of the DVD commentary of this story.
Destination: Vulcan: Not bad including animation director Charles Norton saying how it is 50% his and the other 50% that of live action serial director Christopher Barry.
