Hello all,
Now I didn't spot this, a very good friend of mine did. But I'm here boasting about it, I hope...
Other than the obvious and telegraphed Torchwood references throughout the series there have been other continuing references a bit more below eye level.
In New Earth the Face of Boe makes a veiled reference to the Doctor as God. And like the last time the Face of Boe made a statement it keeps re-appearing. In The Girl In The Fireplace the Doctor is refered to as an angel. In The Rise of the Cybermen the Doctor literally breathed life into the Tardis. In The Idiots Lantern there is a quote 'God Save The Queen' to which the Doctor replies 'twice actually'.
Not forgetting the very obvious quotes in The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit and many others dotted around; in School Reunion and Tooth & Claw for example.
And then in the trailer for this weeks episode the Doctor exclaims 'get this back to hell!'
Who know's where they are going with this? The Eigth Doctor and Gallifrey in his head? Bringing new life to the Time Lords?
What do you lot think?

Interesting. I hadn't noticed that.
Something to puzzle over.

"Bringing new life to the Time Lords"? That's something to ponder over. I sincerely doubt it though but if the statement is true it'd be good. The Time Lords make for more interesting storylines, albeit indirectly. But we can only but dream...

I think you've raised an interesting idea there, I have noticed the references before but remember the Ninth Doctor did say in one of his stories "don't worship me, I'd make a very bad god." Although that may be a teaser, maybe the Doctor is hiding something. Personally I see it as more of a metaphor; in that the Doctor, like God, is a sole being, there are no more like him (as the Doctor pointed out in New Earth "I'm the Doctor and if you don't like it, if you want to take it to a higher authority, there isn't one". That coupled with the Doctor's comments in The Satan Pit that he doesn't really have any beliefs outside of science I would say the references were more of a metaphor than an actual description. Yet who knows what the future holds, and what surprises await in series three...
