5/5. Wow! I know there were hints that the Cybermen and the Daleks would feature, but I didn't think it was likely! And what an opening scene! When one of the lead characters says "This is the story of how I died..." (or something like that), it instantly glues you to your seat. Looking forward to the conclusion, though its gonna have a sad ending

3\5 Good but not brilliant. The trailers before the episode really gave away the fact that it involved daleks and cybermen and the story wasn't very well written. The whole Torchwood thing is as bad as the Bad Wolf one last year.

Excellent episode, I`m interested to see how this`ll play out, especially when the cybermen propose an alliance with the daleks. Both sides don`t seem to trust aliens or put much faith in alliances made with them. The only thing I find unfeasable is torchwood itself, their understanding and possesion of alien tec.

I assume that Torchwood has some ties to UNIT, and theres where the majority of their knowledge comes from.

OK This is a slightly odd one... especially considering it's my first post Anyway since I was away this weekend I set up my spangly new Windows Media Centre PC to record this Saturdays episode, which it did fine. And the episode was great. I thought it was a bit odd that the doctor would put on "3D Spec" at intervals but I put it down as just another loveable Gallifreyan excentricity. However while I was watching the episode I noticed that at times the colours seemed just a tiny wrong... slightly out of synch. The effect is very slight and I really only spotted it when I zoomed the image full screen. Since the recording was made from a Digital TV card what's recorded should be the raw MPEG2 as transmitted and there shouldnt be any compresion artifacts. Then it occurred to me... could RTD have snuck in subtle 3D effects into episode and the doctor wearing the glasses was the hint to the audience that they should try doing the same ? Course the way things are I dont have any 3D Glasses lying around, but if anyone does and has a recording of the episode it might be worth a try (and it's a good excuse to watch it again before the 2nd part next week ) -- Edit -- Ah according to usenet it's said in the commentary that there are no 3D effects in this episode and the significance of the glasses will become aparent in part two. Another promising conspiracy theory bites the dust

And, er, Jake and Pete, too! What losers. Your going to think im a lovey dovey person but it was nice the way they let them to be together. Also can't wait till next season the black dalek one dalek which will reborn the daleks can't wait but i do hope they keep the bad wolf/torchwood thing out it's cool but now it's boring. ((By bad wolf torchwood i mean the name pops up))

Actually I like this inclusion in the new series. It gives each subsequent episode consequence compared to the original series where they moved on from one place to another with hardly any connection.
So yeah, I am assuming we will get a word for the thrid series which will keep popping up.

Well, all famous concepts are open to overuse in some ways, except for ones explicitly stating that they're one off.
On the up side at least we know that Doctor number 10 has been up against them.

Did'nt all the Doctors forms face them on T.v? All apart from Paul McGann did. They were heard at the beginning of the movie but not seen. He did however face them in audio and in the BBC novel range.

They did. TV isn't the only medium that Doctor the Doctor has fought the Daleks in. As dominicsmith said, the 8th Doctor went against them in books and audios.
