Read in DWM's Doctor Who 50 Years - The Doctors, in the feature on Jon Pertwee, found out that Pertwee had turned down the role of Captain Mainwaring in Dad's Army which went to Arthur Lowe instead. It was a decision that Pertwee never regretted and as pointed out by the feature writer Jonathan Rigby it would have meant that Pertwee had never played the Third Doctor. Incidentally at the same time that Pertwee had turned down Dad's Army, his cousin Bill accepted a part in it playing Chief ARP Warden William Hodges.
