Do you think I can ask for that 45 minutes of my life back? I feel exactly the same way! (of course with commercials it's 1 hour) I was taping it but it's going to be erased. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 3! The part at the beginning when the Doctor and Rose were running from the alien was very cartoonish.

The part at the beginning when the Doctor and Rose were running from the alien was very cartoonish. I think that was done on purpose.

I really liked this episode. Marc Warren was perfect - likable and funny, without going over the top. He should have been cast as Doctor #10. This episode entertained me more thoroughly than any other this season. I suppose it wasn't proper Doctor Who, but it was still about the Doctor, just indirectly. It was not juvenile or commercial, (as mentioned on a previous page). It was funny and daring. A great success in my opinion. Well done.

I have to admit that the more I watch this episode, the more I begin to like it, especially the last fifteen minutes; which have some stunning dialogue and a really rather touching story.
I still think it gets off to a shaky start and there are some rather odd choices of direction to begin with, the cutting can be a bit too quick too soon, and there are a few scenes I think are still a bit juvenile, namely the Doctor and Rose's chase scene.
I think the trouble is, Doctor Who fans (or really any fan of any show) can be protective of the programme and the way it is presented, and ideas outside of the norm do tend to be looked upon somewhat icily, hot-headedness undoubtedly following.
Yet closer examination really can change an opinion, an open mind can help as well. Look beyond what is seen every time and realise that yes, this is new and yes, it may be a shock to the system, but really it's actually rather good.
So I humbly apologise for my rather brisque words against this episode, because now I look at it I realise that it's not trying to be something against type, it's looking at the same situation from a different angle, and one in a while that's not a bad thing.
I stand by saying that this isn't something I'd like to see often. Once in a series is enough I feel, but I look forward to seeing what can be done in series three, and how, if it's possible, we can look at the show in a different way again.

Unfortunately, from my end the only feelings that 'Love & Monsters' ever filled me with were nausea, embarrasment and that sensation you get after being kicked in the head. Not one of my favourites...

In my opinion Love & Monsters is definitely a story that improves on repeated viewing and I think the reason for that is simple. Most fans (and possibly even most casual viewers) would have been expecting something quite different and would therefore have found it difficult to like at first. At first, it may seem disappointing or even just plain weird. But after that, if you watch it again knowing what to expect, you can start to appreciate just how clever the script is and how good the acting is.
As lots of people have said, you really wouldn't want the series to be this experimental every week, but after nearly two years it was worth trying and definitely worth watching again. In a way, it was very similar to this week's Torchwood episode (but perhaps it was too soon to try to experiment on that series...?)

Note to self- Don't watch again. /\ See that, well, I might watch it again when the DVD comes, just to see if it does improve with repeated viewing.

I noticed when peter kay/abzorballoff was reading the newspaper it had Saxon on and that's linked to series three. I think this episode was okiiiii but it was a start of a genre of doctor who episodes of Doctor-lite episodes. there is one in series three. trust me i'm a Doctor!!

I thought this was a really cute episode. The whole ELO/L.I.N.D.A. thing was hilarious. I've been to Sci-Fi conventions, and feel as though I know those people. lol I agree that the buckets-chase thing was just too darned silly. And his "relationship" with Ursula-the-paving-stone? Yyyyyeaokay. Whatever. But I wish there was a future episode where it becomes clear that Jackie has forgiven Elton and they're "just proper mates" now. Perhaps he could drag Ursula-the-paving-stone over to Jackie's for a party. Sheesh.
