I think we should have a "Rate an Episode" poll here. So I thought I'd set up the first one. So, what do you think of 'Rose'?

Rose was good when I first saw it but that was probably because it was the return of Doctor Who and only something really crap would have made me not like it. Now though it's good but not that good.

Yeah, thats how I feel as well. If it had been a feature length "pilot" episode it could have been a lot better. I mean its still good and love going back to re-watch it every so often, but compared to some later episodes it is lacking something.

3/5 from me on this one. To be honest I wasn't that impressed by this when it first came out. It just seemed a bit rushed and so out of place to be a Doctor Who story. However as time and the series went on I warmed to it and crossed that line where you realise that this is how television has progressed; pacing is essential to grab the audience and the more domestic side to the series is needed in a way to make it more credible, if you just had Rose swanning off with no consequences I suppose it would seem a bit odd in this day and age, looking at the original series you do wonder what the companion's families must have felt like when their loved ones disappeared off the face of the Earth. Yes the Doctor is different; more wild and unorthodox but then again isn't that the idea of regeneration? The Doctor can change and this is simply how his regeneration has turned out, and it doesn't take long for him to mellow with time. I look back at it now with a bit more warmth than I once did but I still think it;s a bit too rushed in places.

3/5 for me too. They run all the time so you can barely start to understand who's the new Doctor and who's Rose. There are some really good moments ("Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!", the end with Rose running into the Tardis with a huge smile) but 45 minutes are a really short time for a pilot.

I agree with the majority on this one. I give it 3 out of 5. I thought the plastic mannequin aliens were a bit silly, though the idea of living plastic is interesting, and I liked Rose's mom and Mickey. They are like real people, not a generic tv mom and boyfriend, and they brought some humor to the show. I don't think they should have returned in later episodes, though, at least not so often. This episode does a good job of establishing Rose as an ordinary girl, caught up in extraordinary circumstances, which is probably what the creators wanted. She is someone the average viewer can relate to, which is a good way to attract fans who may normally be alienated by science fiction. This isn't one of the better episodes of Doctor Who, but it isn't a bad introduction to the character of Rose.

Jove, the Autons are and old enemy and for what I read RTD wanted to start the new series using a menace from the classic series.

The episode was great. I gave it a five. Since I'm in the US and don't have cable, I hadn't been able to see any episodes on TV until just recently. As a result, I've watched this episode on the computer about 1000 times, and I just love it. There are some great lines and the early part is very tight and well done.

I watched this one again recently and really enjoyed it. Classic enemy; that whole 'bigger on the inside' spiel; neat dig at 'Doctor' websites; shoot-out in a shopping mall; loadsa jokes (and funny too). Best bit of all was the walk past the park where the Doctor said he could feel the movement of the Earth. That gave me the shivers, not just empathising with the characters in the show but the way it said explicitly that it was going to keep faith with the spirit of '63 and stick alien strangeness alongside mundanity for maximum effect. I was so happy after this episode.

RTD wanted a monster that wasn't going to take the centre of the story- he wanted Rose and the Doctor at the forefront. The autons were an old monster, and not that amazing, which allowed them to support the story rather than take centre stage.
