I am watching the Second Doctor story The Moonbase on DVD in which missing episodes 1 and 3 are represented here as animation to complement with their existing soundtracks.
Episode 1: The animation is truly astonishing . Written by Kit Pedlar. This is a truly eerie and intriguing start to the story which in effect is a remake of Pedlar’s previous story The Tenth Planet. Quite shock of the moment when that Cyberman appeared in front of Ralph. What a cliffhanger when a Cyberman was approaching a very sick Jamie.

Episode 2: Quite amusing when the Doctor was looking for specimen in the moonbase’s control room. When the Doctor in the sickbay told Polly to pretend to look busy when Hobson was about to come in it was quite clear he said that within Hobson’s earshot and yet the DVD info text does not note it. Until it was pointed out by DVD commentary moderator Toby Hadoke, had no idea that the scientist who got infected just after drinking coffee was played by Arnold Chazen, father of Voyage of the Damned guest star Debbie Chazen. This episode was quite well done with the Cyberman that appeared as he was very creepy with his scenes including the cliffhanger.

Episode 3: Like Episode 1, Episode 3 is missing but for its DVD release the episode is animated in a mix with the existing soundtrack. Like Episode 1, the animation for this episode is impressive. Quite tense when the Cybermen revealed themselves to the Doctor, his companions and the moonbase personnel. Quite ingenuous on how nail varnish remover can be used as a weapon against the Cybermen. Impressive cliffhanger with all the Cybermen marching towards the moonbase.

Episode 4: Very good conclusion to this story. Very good the scene in which Ben and Jamie rammed a zombie-like crewmember in the sickbay. Impressive how the Cybermen gets defeated here. The story ends with the teaser to next story The Macra Terror with a Macra appearing in the time scanner. A little bit surprised here that moderator Toby Hadoke did not slip in the commentary the fact the Macra came back to Doctor Who in Gridlock (2007).
