The Little Planet: The Little Planet is a short story in The Brilliant Book 2011. Written by David Llewellyn, it is a backstory on the Silurians, in particular to The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood. It tells of a story from the perspective of a young Silurian female called Kaya in the lead-up to the Silurians hibernating when it was thought of an upcoming disaster was approaching with a small planet coming Earth’s way (the small planet was first revealed to be the moon in The Silurians’ introductory story and reiterated in The Hungry Earth). The Little Planet has a reference to Eldane and Malohkeh who were characters in The Hungry Earth/Cold War. It is an interesting perspective from Kaya on the preparation of the Silurians in their hibernation on the threat that the moon was thought to present and Kaya’s attitude on the humans taking over the Earth.

Umwelts For Hire: Umwelts For Hire is a two part story written by acclaimed science fiction author Brian Aldiss. While Aldiss did come up with a brilliant (no pun intended as one is about to see) name of a mayor called Billiant, I cannot say the same about the story itself. It felt really dull right from the beginning to its denouement.

The Brilliant Book 2011 had an interview with Steven Moffat in which it introduced him as the de facto showrunner.
Personally I found the use of the word “de facto” in this case to be hardly a true acknowledgement from the book of Steven Moffat’s official capacity on Doctor Who and surely the book did not need to use “de facto” to describe Moffat’s said job description on the show.
