Why do so many people not like Davison's doctor, just because he was so different to Tom Baker. He's my favourite because of the fact that he is different. Can you imagine stories like 'Caves' or 'Earthshock' being as good as they are if another doctor had been in them. They probably wouldn't have even been made.
I would be interested to hear your views.

I think he's a very good Doctor, and he must have been doing something right to be getting such high ratings in his first season.

I personally loved his run at the part. From the first moments of unraveling the scarf to the good-bye to Peri on the floor of the TARDIS. He had a great run.
Did I love ALL of his episodes? No. (I loathe Timeflight, Kinda and Enlightenment, but that's just me.)

Yes, he was a good Doctor.
I think a lot of fans back then were a little disturbed that this Doctor was flawed; some of his actions and decisions resulted in misfired plans and sometimes innocent deaths. After the 4th Doctor (who seemed ridiculously powerful and faultless), this must have been plainly unnacceptable.
These days, of course, we simply see it as a more complex and three dimensional characterisation. Of course everybody has flaws. No one is perfect.

I thought he was a good Doctor, but not personally my favorite.
I don't think it is the Doctor i didn't particularly like, i thought it was the famale companions. Tegan was bossy and Nyssa always took her skirts off (for some reasion). I liked Peri although she was only in 2 storys.
But I did like Adric and Turlough, and when i saw Kamelion i thought he was good to.
I relay liked Earthshock (and to hell with it, i would have saved Adric) that was my favorite Fifth Doctor story.
- And his regeneration sequence was one of the best!!!

I think the 5th Doctor did a good job. The first two 5th Doctor DVDs I got were 'Earthshock' and 'Resurrection of the Daleks'. 'The Caves of Androzani' is currently on my list. What does Sharaz Jek look like underneath that mask?

Considering the fact that he had to follow on from Tom Baker, I think he did a wonderful job!

Considering the fact that he had to follow on from Tom Baker, I think he did a wonderful job! I agree! Anyway I think it's good that each Doctor has his own little qualities that make each incarnation stand out from his predecessor and sucessor, that's why the series went on for so long. By the way I rather liked the 5th Doctor's cricket gear, it suited him.

Davidson was my first Doctor as a kid so he'll always have a good space in my heart. The fact that he was more flawed than any other Doctor makes him more accessable to the viewers. He's not quite so alien. I wish he had a longer run at the show though.

I wonder what the show would have turned out like had Peter Davison done at least one more season? There's something to think about when you get home and the TV breaks! I rather liked the 5th Doctor, on my favourite Doctor table he's in 4th Place (1st Place: Tom Baker, 2nd Place: Patrick Troughton, 3rd Place: Jon Pertwee). In fact if the poll was based on a score out of 10 I'd have given him an 8.

To be honest I think the show might have done a lot better if Davison had carried on. Not being overbiased but he was very popular and Colin wasn't, poor Colin.

I assume what's being said is that some of the stories for Colin Baker may never have been made, and in their place being better written ones? Savvy?

Yes it is a shame that Davison took Troughton's advice and let go after 3 seasons, one or two more would have been nice.
