Robot will be coming out soon on dvd, so what does everyone think of this story? I give it 4 stars, because I thought it was very good, just not one of Tom's best. One of the best introductory stories, though.

I gave it a 4. It's the very first Doctor Who story I've ever seen so it has a special place in my heart.

I gave it 4 because it was the first tom baker episode and it was entertaining and funny and gave a real insight on the fourth doctor.

Tom Baker has a website? Does he know this? I will say Robot is not as good as Pertwee's best. ;D

He knows, and seriousness is not something that is found in abundance there either. ;D

Reminds me of "Frankenstein". Tom Baker is great as always. He manages to be clownish yet regal at the same time. I prefer an episode set in another place and time, though. Not sure whether to give this one a 3 or 4, just because its Tom Baker's first.

Actually, this reminds me more of 'King Kong'. You know, the premise of this being of great strength and such, victimised by various humans (in the film, King Kong was not the villain). Then to top it off, there's the girl who's grabbed by the being and taken to the top of a tall place; in the case of 'Robot' the "girl" is Sarah Jane-Smith and the tall place is a hill.
Ok, so one is sci-fi, the other fantasy, but I've noticed the similarities, and if you look at the 'Robot' page at the BBC, guess what was one of the sources of inspiration used.

You have thought more about this than I did. I just thought it was a good story about a robot.

Frankenstein's monster is brought to life by a scientist, just like the title character in "Robot". In both stories, the creation goes out of control, turning on its creator in the end, IIRC. The two stories have alot in common.

In any event, Robot was a good first story for Tom. It showed us we could expect of his Doctor in the future.

So, let me get this straight... what you're suggesting is that this story is a SciFi version of a crossed over story between Frankenstein and King Kong? Now I'm confused.

We all read what we want to into Doctor Who. Sounds like these fellows have a lot of time on their hands.

I recently got the DVD. The special features were very good, and I am enjoying the commentary by Tom Baker and Elizabeth Sladen.
