Doctor Who Stories is a collection of short stories written for the Doctor Who Files being presented together in this one book.
The Hero Factor: First story. Written by Stephen Cole. Featuring the Tenth Doctor and Rose. The Doctor and Rose are on a planet in which the populace knows of the heroics that he has done and gets hero worship there and that includes media attention. Quite an enjoyable story. There is a part in the story in which the villain slipped on a banana skin which is a bit cartoonish.

Stamp of Approval: Second story. Written by Jacqueline Rayner. This story is structured as a letter from Rose to Jackie and with the title of the story it is appropriate for the story to be set up this way. Stamp of Approval was quite educational when via an explanation from Rose to Jackie on how stamps on mail came about. Quite a good account of the Doctor and Rose’s encounter with a Hobothy, a yellow monster with huge purple eyes (I can only imagine how a designer on the TV series would have drawn a Hobothy). It is often said that the pen is mightier than the sword. The might of the pen, specifically ink has been shown here to inflict harm with killer stamps of Queen Victoria and of course Rose recalls meeting the real Queen Victoria in Tooth and Claw. So much fun reading this story which could only work well in the prose format.

No Fun At The Fair: Third story. Written by Jacqueline Rayner. Rose has most of the action here in this very fun (pun intended) adventure in which she faces off against a Slitheen at a funfair although the Slitheen’s demise is still met by the Doctor. The last sentence spoken by Rose is the complete opposite to the story title: “After all, it’s not often that you have so much fun at the fair.”

Taking Mickey: Fifth story. Written by Justin Richards. This is a Doctor-less story featuring Mickey. Mickey answers an email from a woman who claims has information about the Doctor. However the woman turns out to be an alien who holds the Doctor responsible for the death of her husband. The story is ultimately worth it due to Mickey devising the way of getting out of the situation he is in. The reaction of the alien to Mickey’s escape which ends the story is well worth the look if this had been made as a TV story.

A Dog's Life: Sixth story. Written by Justin Richards. A K9 story told from the perspective of K9 Mark III with the story presented in a data like format since K9 is a computer. With a fleeting appearance from Sarah Jane and a cameo by the Tenth Doctor it seems that this story takes place leading up to K9's meeting with the Tenth Doctor in School Reunion. Quite poignant reading it from K9's perspective. Especially enjoyable was when K9 stopped and captured a couple of burglars.

Mission to Galacton: Seventh story. Written by Justin Richards. A Doctorless Dalek adventure. Although I had experience Dalek stories which did not involve the Doctor at all, this one on its merits was quite good especially with the Daleks' fight with rock creatures.

Going Off the Rails: Eighth story. A Doctor-less story featuring a Cyberman. Instead of the Doctor, the main characters here are school kids Sam (a girl) and Harry. Sam and Harry found and brought a Cyberman back to life one that came out of the events of Doomsday. With the absence of the Doctor, Sam and Harry make for fine stand-in characters as they ultimately fight off and defeat the Cyberman.

Needle Point: Ninth story. Featuring the Tenth Doctor and Martha. Martha becomes tired of tagging around with the Doctor in circles that she decides to wander off on her own. It is when she sees multiple versions of the same old lady and they of course turned out to be nefarious aliens. A very enjoyable story with Martha on her own for much of it and it is amusing how on her own she defeats these old ladies aliens.

Best Friends: Tenth story. A Captain Jack story without the presence of the Doctor. Anthony Bradshaw has a best friend but one only he can see. A thrilling story on Jack on who Anthony’s best friend turned to be. A sombre ending in which Anthony has determined on who his new best friend is.

Birth of a Legend: Eleventh story. A Doctor-less Dalek story. Enjoyable battles between the Daleks and the Mechanoids. Thrilling that all this leads to the formation of the Cult of Skaro.

The Final Darkness: Fourth story. This story is presented in the form of a journal entry of the Sycorax ship scribe which was transcribed during The Christmas Invasion and translated in English by the UNIT Alien-English software. Very interesting re-telling of The Christmas Invasion from the point of view of the Sycorax. Somewhat amusing on how the scribe described certain visitors on the visitors such as the yellow girl (Rose, and was also described this way in The Christmas Invasion itself)!

The Secret of the Stones: Twelfth story. Martha asked the Doctor how Stonehenge was built. However instead of seeing the building of Stonehenge first hand they instead sees it through snapshots through history. The premise is basically the same as Exploration Earth: The Time Machine the radio drama in which the Fourth Doctor and Sarah saw how the Earth was created whilst in the TARDIS. Overall The Secret of the Stones does not make for a bad story even though there was no action coming out of the Doctor and Martha.

Disappearing Act: Fourteenth story. Not a bad story involving an Ood, a special agent from the Galactic Enforcement Agency and a magic trick with the Doctor and Donna in the midst in all this.

Blind Terror: Thirteenth story. This is a Doctorless story and it centres on the Sontaran-Rutan War. Not bad story about the said war and how a blind girl got in the middle of it hence the story title and this girl was very brave in what was presented with.
