I read this on another BLOG, and was wondering the same thing. Can anyone shed any light on subject. Hope I didn't step on any toes by copying and pasting wo/permission.

I remember reading somewhere that the surname of Sam Tyler for the original character was suggested by the creator's daughter, who liked the character of Rose Tyler. Alas, I cannot provide a good citation for that factoid, so treat it with due skepticism.

Alas, I cannot provide a good citation for that factoid, so treat it with due skepticism. I know of no other connection. Well yeah the Tyler connection is as I quoted of you, but the Rose bit was probably just a co-incidence. What was the mum's name in the British version?
