I wrote this today for a bit of fun, see what you think...
The Ballad of Rose Tyler
Oh I was born in London
On the good old Powell Estate.
I grew up with my mother
Past my dear old dad’s tragic fate.
She raised me till my teenage years
When I went out to start my work
And prepared me for life on the road.
For years I stood in boredom
In a shop I loathed full well.
I woke, I worked, I sang, I slept
In a routine, by the bell.
Until one day there came this man
Who showed me better things
And led me to life on the road.
Oh the Doctor came and took me
From my home on planet Earth.
He took me in his TARDIS
From the soil I called my turf.
He flew be to the future
Where I saw the sun expand
And began my life on the road.
He took me back to Earth’s past
Where I met a ghostly foe.
Then he led me back to London
Where I reaped what I had sown.
Through the aliens and the monsters
I decided on my fate
And opted for life on the road.
And then there came the Dalek
Who killed all those he saw.
Then with Adam to the future
And the gross greed that he sought .
I went back to see my dad die
And gave him extra time
But soon it was back on the road.
In the forties strolled a traveller
Captain Jack was his name.
He helped to save the planet
Then with us he then came.
We travelled back to Cardiff
And saved the Earth again
But as always we left upon the road.
When we met the dreaded Daleks
The Doctor sent me home.
But I returned there to save him
In a guide unlike my own.
The Daleks died, the Doctor changed
His face became anew
And he started once more along on the road.
We saved the Earth at Christmas
Then heard a prophecy.
We slew a wolf with moonlight
And were banished from these seas.
Yet we returned some years later
Where the truth was really told
About life for a friend on the road.
My old boyfriend he came with us
Through the spite we once declared.
We patched it up and moved on
Through the things that made us scared.
Through men who moved like clockwork
And men made out of steal
He left us for life on the road.
We moved on to the fifties
And fought with TV screens.
We saw hell and heard the devil
We battled with his deeds.
And though we went on our travels
The words he said to me
Made me worry about life on the road.
We had so many travels
Through soon they were to end.
We fought absorbing monsters
And an child who wanted friends.
But the Doctor knew of something
A storm about to come
When my life would stop its path along the road.
With Torchwood came the army
The great war fought on Earth.
The gain of lost companions
And the loss of sacred turf.
The Daleks came from the void
The Cybermen as well
And the trouble stood before me on the road.
The Doctor sent them packing
He threw them back hell.
But in saving my own planet
I was lost to him as well.
Through I was saved I knew that
My life was over then
It must be the end of the road.
Through life in a new dimension
The Doctor called to me.
A ran to try and find him
And we met out by the sea.
We said out tearful farewells
And he faded from my life
To walk once again along the road.
Oh I have seen the future
Through the past I’ve walked as well.
I’ve fought aliens and monsters
I’ve done things I’ll never tell.
And now that life is over
I’ve been left to settle down
And remember life on the road.
The general structure and theme is borrowed from a song called 'I Wish I Was In Glasgow', a favourite of mine, but the lyrics are my own It's not that impressive I'll admit but it was a bit of a five-minute idea; keeps the creative juices flowing so to speak.
So what do you think? Any good?
All comments much appreciated,
Thanks, Dominic
