I wasn' t sure where to post this to get a response but I didn't see this info in the reference guide synopsis of Room with No Doors and need this info:
I'm going to write a fan fic (unless you don't approve) wherein the Doctor and companions revisit a minor character from ROOM WITH NO DOORS but I need some help. I think the character was a 16 year old Samurai named Aoi. I need to know from the book if his father was one of the warlords, which side he was on, who captured him, and his full name if given. In fact, any info from the book would be appreciated. And thanks ahead of time. The fic will be set two years or so after the book. I can't get to my copy of this GREAT Doctor Who novel and wondered if you could supply the info. Thanks.

Hi Chuck - I hope the following is helpful:
Aoi’s father was a Samurai warrior called Aka-san. He is referred to throughout the Reference Guide synopsis for this story as “Gufuu’s samurai”.
When the story opened, Itachi Aoi had just turned 16 and became a bushi in the service of the Gufuu family. Aoi’s father served Gufuu Kocho, the daimyo of Han, Daini and the Sanban Districts.
Gufuu summoned Aoi’s father, and his oldest friend Kiiro, and sent the three of them on a mission to find a kami that had fallen from the sky near the village of Hekison. His father believed there was no greater victory than one achieved without bloodshed.
Towards the end of the story, the Doctor found Aoi dead, with an arrow though his eye. It adds: “No one knew what became of his father, whether he was dead or recovering from wounds somewhere, or even attending to his duties without regard to his grief.” There are later references in the synopsis to another of Gufuu's samurai, but that's actually a different character.

Thanks. That helps a great deal, however, I didn't think Aoi died in the story. Are you sure that was last of Aoi? He wasn't healed by the alien device and captured? Let me know if you can. Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for all your help. Hi chuck - no, not that I recall. However, I'm prepared to be corrected. Has anyone else out there read this book and drawn a different conclusion?
