Oh dear! I've stated in the past that this current trend for putting high-profile but unsuitable actors in the role of villains is not necessarily a bad thing. Pandering to the childhood fantasies of stand-up comedians? Nah! Using big names just for the sake of publicity and dragging in viewers who wouldn't normally bother with DW? Surely not! However... Its Saturday afternoon here in the UK, Love And Monsters is a mere 4 hours away and I await it with some trepidation. Why? Well, I watched Jonathon Ross's chatshow last night and Peter Kay was a guest. They showed a couple of clips from tonight's story and while Peter has decided to portray Kennedy (the alien villain's human form) as a luvvy theatrical actor-type with rich and cultured tones, he is portraying the alien itself (the ridiculously named Abzorbaloff, apparently because it absorbs its victims) with his normal Bolton (Lancashire) accent! I'm aware that "All planets have a north!" but I found myself thinking "What the f***!" Still, we shall wait and see....

I previously posted: Oops!! Just found out on DW Confidential that the alien was designed and named by a nine year old boy who entered it in a Blue Peter competition! Perhaps I shouldn't have been so hasty to slag it off... after all, we were all 9 years old once. Incidentally, my other half says Peter's portrayal of the alien reminded her of Mike Myers as Fat B*stard in Austin Powers

I think that, barring David Tennant and Billie Piper, I think that Peter Kay was the only person who could act in that episode.

I fully agree with you there, I thought Peter was fantastic, a lot better than I had expected. Bar David and Billie he was the best occurrence in the entire episode and the last scenes with him chasing Elton were truly hysterical.

I think Marc Warren is a bloody good actor actually.

I think Marc Warren is a bloody good actor actually. He was good but I just shined to Peter more. The delivery of his line about life living with a paving slab was brilliant.
