Is the Doctor Who Reference Guide still relevant in 2024, ever more so since not having been updated in over a decade?
When I started this project 25 years ago, Doctor Who was a beloved but dead show. There was no summaries or synopsis of any kind online. If you needed any information, you’ll need to find it in books or magazines. The revival of the show changed everything. And brough so many new stories each month that it was overwhelming. I love British TV. I love the classic Doctor Who era. But I am not a fan of new Who. And at some point, it became clear that I would need a lot more skill than I had to keep it going.
Keeping the website alive cost around $250 each year. It’s has not brought any revenue for many years since most the Amazon links are dead or outdated. The domain is up again for renewal in May, and the hosting is paid until then. What’s next?
The most obvious option is to pull the plug and let the memory of the Reference Guide survive in the pages of the Wayback Archive. Another possibility would be to find a cheaper of free hosting company to lower the cost to a minimum. However, there could be programming bugs to solve since technology has changed a lot over the last decade. Or somebody could take over to either revive it or simply continue to maintain as it is.
One way or another, a decision must be made in the next two months.

Hi Dominique, Long time no chat!
Saw your posting and as a long-ago member I just wanted to say thanks. Thanks for building this site, thanks for allowing me to write and publish summaries of the 60s episodes, and thanks for keeping it up and running for so very long, especially after your enthusiasm for Doctor Who waned.
I have returned to this site as a reader/researcher many times over the years and I'll be sorry to see it go. But I totally understand your decision.
I hope that you are doing well. I appreciate the camaraderie and community we all had around a shared love of Doctor Who all those years ago and won't forget it.
Best, Jeff Murray

I see that it's already almost two months since the news.
I'm another fan who found your Guide precious and occasionally contributed with the summary of a few books, more than 15 years ago! Whatever you decide, the Guide has been a terrific resource for me throughout the years, so you'll always have my gratitude.

Just heard the news that you are clsoing down teh site after all these years. I used to come hre a lot way back before Nu Who started and even after it started. Your episodes guides are very informative and I have often come back to them as well as the Novel synopsesw over the years. Sadly as teh site has not been updated in over 10 years I sadly drifted away and was only alerted to the closure last week.
I just want to say thanks for all the memories I have gotten over the years from this site.
