Frank Cox has passed away. Born on May 28 1940, Cox directed three individual episodes, but not whole stories, of Doctor Who during the first season. Cox first directed The Brink of Disaster, the concluding episode to The Edge of Destruction. Cox then directed Kidnap & A Desperate Venture, the last two episodes of The Sensorites. Doctor Who marked Cox’s directorial debut and he also directed the Doomwatch episode Hear No Evil and on Eastenders. His other work included being production assistant on the Sherlock Holmes episode Black Peter (1968). Cox was married to Bridget Turner (1939-2014) who as an actress appeared in Doctor Who playing Alice Cassini in Gridlock in 2007. (Incidentally Turner died on December 27 2014 which coincidentally is my wife Barbara Crampton’s birthday.) Cox died on April 27 2021, 31 days before his 81st birthday
