Jackie Lane has passed away.
Born on July 10 1941, Lane played Doctor Who companion Dorothea "Dodo" Chaplet alongside First Doctor William Hartnell from February to July 1966.
She made her first appearance as Dodo at the end of The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve and last appeared at the halfway point of The War Machines when Dodo fell under the influence of the said War Machines. With the use of hypnosis, the Doctor frees Dodo from this influence and she was then taken away to recover from this experience.
Lane isn't seen again as Dodo after that and at the end of that story, Ben and Polly went to see the Doctor in which Polly delivered a message to the Doctor from Dodo in which Dodo had decided to stay in London, where this story was set, and not resume her travels with the Doctor.
Prior to Doctor Who her work included Coronation Street playing Cheryl.
After Doctor Who she retired from acting, she became a theatrical agent in which her clients included Doctor Who actors Tom Baker (the Fourth Doctor), Janet Fielding (Tegan) and Nicholas Courtney (the Brigadier).
In 2013, An Adventure of Time and Space made for Doctor Who's 50th anniversary that year it included a portrayal of Lane with her briefly played by Sophie Holt.
Also for the said 50th anniversary, Lane turned up briefly in Doctor Who: The Afterparty as she bid her own greetings for the anniversary celebrations.
She died on June 23 2021, just 17 days before her 80th birthday.
A day after her death, Stephen James Walker who has written and edited books about Doctor Who posted this video of her in Paris in 2010:
