Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon has Big Finish giving Billie Piper as Rose her own series.
Billie as Rose came close to having her own TV spin-off Rose Tyler: Earth Defence but this spin-off was cancelled by Russell T. Davies upon its conception.
The Dimension Cannon, from all accounts, is however a different idea to Earth Defence.
From Rose's perspective The Dimension Cannon takes place between Doomsday & Partners In Crime, the former episode was when she became trapped in the parallel world and this series details Rose's search for the Doctor.
It starts with The Endless Night.
Written by Jonathan Morris this also has Shaun Dingwall reprising Pete for the first time since the said Doomsday as well as Camille Coduri as Jackie.
Also back in reprising the character that he previously played in the TV series is Mark Benton as Clive whom he had played in Rose the TV episode.
Clive in Rose the episode was killed by an Auton but the Clive that Benton plays here is one in the parallel universe that Rose visits in her mission to find the Doctor.
The Endless Night starts with Rose being teleported to another world and then comes the theme music.
On hearing this theme music it became familiar to me and I then realised that I had heard it before in Revenge of the Nestene made to tie in with the Rose global rewatch.
This explains to me why Big Finish got a thanks credit in Revenge of the Nestene.
On arriving in the world that she landed in, Rose asked a passer-by who the Prime Minister is and it is a name that she hadn't heard before that of Margo Kinnear.
On my first listen I had thought that Margo Kinnear was a name that served solely for the purpose of being said. So it took me surprise that Prime Minister Kinnear does turn up later on to address the nation.
Rose meets with Clive and soon gets his help to track down this universe's Pete and Jackie.
In fact as stated before the Rose TV episode had Rose (that was already a given due to the episode title) and Clive but it also had Jackie in it.
However in Rose the episode Jackie and Clive did not meet.
The Endless Night rectifies a meeting between Jackie and Clive albeit different versions of them.
In this universe, Rose in her investigations finds that Pete and Jackie never got married as they had broken up before it could reach that stage and therefore Rose of this universe was never born.
In fact Pete and Jackie hadn't seen each other in 20 years since their break-up.
Rose finds out from them that Pete took Jackie to see the James Bond film A View to a Kill for their first date.
The Endless Night includes references to Torchwood and whether it is coincidental or not, Big Finish earlier had a Torchwood episode called A Kill to a View by Mac Rogers, an inverse in name to the said James Bond film.
Incidentally prior to The Endless Night, Morris had written a Big Finish Torchwood with Instant Karma.
Rose makes a comment about Jackie's life to Jackie which Jackie did not take too kindly to. Rose had earlier did the same to the now dead Jackie of the parallel world that she was forced to stay in and got a similar reaction.
Rose's separate meetings with Pete and Jackie unintentionally led to the former couple having an uneasy reunion.
However this uneasy reunion soon got superseded when the sun gone out leading to permanent darkness.
Adverse effects included looting and Rose would later witness looting in her old world in The Stolen Earth.
A tense situation with the sun going out and a predicament that Rose hadn't expected, something that got resolved in an unexpected way.
What a trick that Rose pulls at the end finishing off this solid first episode of The Dimension Cannon.
