Penultimate story of season 40. Written by Rona Munro in her first story since 1989’s Survival. I had no idea what to expect of Munro’s story. I had no inkling, as it turn out rightly, that Munro was going to bring back the Cheetah people from Survival. It is instead about remnants of the Lost Legion of the Ninth. Some years ago I had seen the movie Centurion (2010) which was about the Ninth Legion and had featured former companion Noel Clarke and Next Doctor David Morrissey. Enjoyable little bits with the two kids including the revelation at the beginning of the carving of the TARDIS at the stone. Overall not a bad new story from Munro about the Legion and an extradimensional being. Frankly I am not too thrilled with the resolution to the menace that is the extradimensional being and I don’t know how else it could have been resolved. Missy turned up at the end and the Master, when he was in the form of Anthony Ainley had featured substantially in Munro’s earlier Survival. Nice little moment between the Doctor and Missy at the end. The Next Time trailer for World Enough and Time felt much better than The Eaters of Light as a whole. Just as the Next Trailer for Extremis had Missy popped up briefly at the end, the Next Time trailer for World Enough and Time does exactly the same thing only it is with the Simm Master as he says “Give us a kiss.” That along with the look of the Mondasian Cybermen.
