I'd like to see the Doctor go back to being the foppish edwardian or Eaton type. Perhaps Hugh Grant or Hugh Laurie, that sort of actor.

If Tennant leaves in 2008, I worked out the show would end in 2023, then careful scheduling would have the last episode broadcast near or on the 23rd of November of that year, the 60th Anniversary of the show. What I really meant, was; why not 5, 5, 5 seasons respectively, or 5, 3, 7 or 5, 7, 3 or 4, 4, 7 etc. From the way you wrote it, you made it seem as though they should only do 7, 5 and 3 seaasons each respectively. Well, that was the general idea, having number 11 doing seven seasons, number 12 doing 5 and number 13 doing three. I have other reasons too but I won't bore you to death with them.

I think Marc Warren would be great. Then again, so would Adrian Lester (also of Hustle fame), although I've read somewhere he's heading to make it big in Hollywood. Views on a black Doctor, anyone? I've said somewhere before that every so often the controversy of having a female Doctor crops up, but what about a black one? I suppose the argument against it would be that while a gender change is feasible during regeneration, a change of ethnic origin isn't. We know black Time Lords do exist (doesn't Don Warrington play one in one of the Big Finish stories?). On the point of a black (or of any skin colour) Doctor I see nothing wrong with it. To be honest a change of skin colour would be the more feasible option but a change of gender would be impossible for genetic reasons. Though don't ask me to explain there because even though I would understand, I don't know about everyone else. All I'm saying it's got something to do with chromosones.

I read somewhere that in nature some species of frogs and fishes can change gender (if the local population is badly misbalanced toward a particular gender). This proves that XX or XY chromosomes aside, it is feasible for an unassisted change to take place. Besides, I'm sure it could all be explained away with a good dollop of pseudo-scientific gobbledigook. After all, we all know that a full-body regeneration of the Time Lord variety isn't really possible, but we all readily accept it. However, I shouldn't quibble over what is more feasible than what else, since, as I've just argued, throw enough sci-fi terminology at it and anything is 'feasible.' Kind of just shot myself in the foot in light of my original theory on a change of ethnic origin not being likely.

I think a black Doctor would work. I would prefer that to a female Doctor, though thats feasible too, given the right actress. Here's an idea, perhaps most controversial of all: an American Doctor! How do you think the Brits would react to that? There was some talk in the show about the 9th Doctor's "northern accent", though, as an American, I didn't notice the difference. If the Doctor's accent can change, why not have an American Doctor?

I don't think they should change gender, that would be a bit too much. I can see a black actor taking the role but again I think it would be a too bold a move.

why not have an American Doctor? Because what really makes the character so special to many people is his quintessential British-ness. Even when the TV Movie was made in America they passed on the chance to cast an American actor, they went with Paul McGann.

Were any of the Time Lords black? Rassilon in the BIG Finish audios, as played by Don Warrington (who also played the President in 'Rise of the Cybermen' earlier this year).

To quote teenagers the world over (of which I have not been one for nearly 2 decades now), "Whatever!"
I still stand by my arguement that if you throw enough pseudo-scientific jargon at it, you can get away with anything in science fiction.

Yes, but is it worth watching afterwards is the question.

I see nothing wrong with a black Doctor. I think the actor who was in HEX as principal would be great and I think he was also in one or two eps of SEA OF SOULS, all superior shows script wise to this season's DW. I was willing and open to DT and still am (I've only seen four of his eps) however a friend of mine made me realize how young he is and seems, he seems younger than Davison when Davison took over even though I think he's not. I also don't like some of his ways in New Earth ("I still got it") and feel he's very forced in Tooth and Claw, but okay overall there as well. I think a much much older Doctor might be cool but the public would never go for that.
As for how long he'll stay? I think the actor will probably want to go at the end of this year or next year but judging that it sounds like Rose, the backbone of season one but not season two, will go first, i doubt they will want to bring in a new Doctor at the same time as losing a companion unless they bring back Mickey. Frankly I think the show's a big mess at this point, and already losing direction and they don't seem to know what to do. Bringing back old monsters is fine if one is surrounded by fresh original ones like season one was alongwith great stories such as DOCTOR DANCES and EMPTY CHILD but even as mediocre as END OF THE WORLD was it was infinitely more entertaining than anything this year that I've seen due to the reactons of Rose to the Doctor and her to him. This year that I've seen so far, it's forced, love stuff that does not seem like love but playful jittery boyfriend girlfriend crap (The werewolf story was worst for this with Rose jsut fawning "Oh my god they're werrewovles"). OMG is right. Equally in New Earht i feel the forced stuff was ...bad. "Travleing with you like this...it's soo sooo..." Oh stop it Rose. We know you like it. We don't at this point if you keep that up; so now there are old monsters back again in the last of the season...how predictable. Ah wel i'll probalby like it. Bring back Mickey, an old Doctor and make Jackie a companion!

Also: let's face facts: Tom Baker stayed and was allowed to stay in Doctor Who because he was really really really good! In my mind, he still is the ultimate Doctor!
