Hi how do you think Eccleston's Doctor fares on the good to bad stakes. I put O.K.

Being stuck in North Carolina, I had to rely upon the good graces of a friend in Newcastle who... errr, found copies of the first season for me, shall we say. I absolutely loved it, me. I wasn't gonna wait for the DVD set to come out here in July; I got it off of Amazon Canada in February.

I liked the Ninth Doctor. He was especially good in 'The Empty Child [1 & 2]'. I liked his performance in 'Bad Wolf [1 & 2]' too.

I'm brand new to the show, and when I heard Mr. Eccleston was not returning, I was very dissapointed. I hope in the 9th season ending episode, they explain how/why the Doctor (or Doctors?) reincarnate upon death. Additionally, do all Timelords reincarnate upon death? If so, why is the Doctor the last of his race? If not, why is the Doctor a unique Timelord?

If so, why is the Doctor the last of his race? If not, why is the Doctor a unique Timelord? All Time Lords can reincarnate (or regenerate), it is believed to be an inbuilt cycle of their metabolisms; it's one of their alien qualities. The Doctor is the last of his race as the Time Lords were wiped out in a Time War with the Daleks, who also apparently perished but one of two did survive, including the Emperor. The Doctor survived not by choice but by luck, he was the one who wiped out the Daleks but I believe the Time Lords were also killed at the same time, leaving him the last survivor. Hope that helps, Dominic

I thought Eccleston was a great Doctor. He was passionate when necessary, but whimsical too. He pulled either off very well. He managed to be masculine and heroic, but quirky and irreverent as well. I think his best performance was in Dalek. He expressed very intense and difficult emotions in this episode, I was really swept up by his acting in this one.

Hard to imagine anyone playing this part better. I will be pessimistic and think the replacement won't be nearly as good, but I'm willing to give him a chance.

...but I'm willing to give him a chance. Often the best policy I think.

loved him as the doctor ... warm character, believable, quirky but intense, nothing flashy just honest delivery
I only wish he had stayed longer, I'd have liked to see more of him as the doctor. He did a tremendous job.

I think this Doctor worked most of the time but was disappointed with the juvenility of stories like the ones with the Slitheen. Sure they were good for a laugh but not as a classic meance to stand the test of time like in more serious stories.

Even though I liked what I saw of Tom Baker in the early 80s, when my friend tried to introduce me to Doctor Who, it was Eccleston's Doctor who made me fall in love with the Whoniverse. He was my first Doctor, though I now consider Tom Baker to be my favorite of all of them. I just didn't "get it" back then. Wish I could see my friend now, to show him it took many many years but I finally got the bug.
