This is a part of The Handbook series written by David J Howe, Mark Stammers and Stephen James Walker published in the 1990s that looked at the making of “classic” Doctor Who. With this book looking at the Hartnell years it provides an interesting account to Doctor Who beginnings. The book provides summaries of the Hartnell stories that were made and gone into great detail about one of them The Ark (of course with space that could be afforded to the book there was no way that the authors could have gone into great detail about every single Hartnell story).
In addition to this there are interview extracts from the contributors involved including of course William Hartnell. One particular fact that attracted my attention is that it said that The Keys of Marinus John Gorrie had blatantly shown his lack of enthusiasm in working on the series. This is in contrast to what I read in DWM published some years ago about the DVD release of The Keys of Marinus which revealed Gorrie had a change of attitude about his work on The Keys of Marinus and now likes what he did with it and I am very glad about his change of attitude in working on Doctor Who.
