Released in September 2005.
First part in the first Cybermen mini-series from Big Finish.
Written and directed by Nick Briggs.
With the critical acclaim, the first three Dalek Empire series received it seemed only right that Big Finish did a Cybermen mini-series.
The release of Scorpius was quite timely coming eight months before the Cybermen's return to television in Doctor Who.
Like he does in Doctor Who both on TV and on audio the Cybermen are voiced here by writer/director Nick Briggs.
Perhaps drawing inspiration from the spy TV series Spooks, with its absence of credits apart from the title, the CD sleeve for Scorpius and presumably for the subsequent releases of the Cybermen series, has no list of cast and characters.
The backdrop takes place during the human's war with the androids originally alluded to in the season 27 Doctor Who story The Sword of Orion also featuring the Cybermen and written and directed by Briggs released by Big Finish four years earlier.
Very intriguing start to the series with military commander and subsequent President Karen Brett's determination to win the war against the androids.
However her rise to the presidency was brought about by the Cybermen. Therefore this makes Brett a puppet President with the mysterious Paul Hunt being the puppeteer on behalf of the Cybermen.
The manipulation of President Brett has been made easier for Hunt and the Cybermen due to a personal tragedy for Brett that not even they could have foreseen.
Scorpius has served well as the opener of the first Cybermen series due to the introduction of Paul Hunt as he is displayed as devious right from the opening scene.
