820th Whoniverse episode and the 247th Whoniverse story.
Written by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford.
Directed by Graeme Harper.
This is not the first time that Phil Ford has written about Mars as he had written 23 of the 26 episodes of the 2005 TV series of Captain Scarlet.

Waters of Mars takes place on November 21 2059. It is too bad that this did makes its debut broadcast on November 21 2009 exactly 50 years before the events of the episode. Before it was announced it was going to be November 15, November 21 was my guess of broadcast date for the episode.
Water vampires is the only way to described what has become of the infected crew.
A sly reference to K9 when it was mentioned about domestic dogs and robots.
Very good the flashback of Adelaide as a girl during the events of The Stolen Earth/Journey's End (also directed by Graeme Harper) and surprisingly the Dalek cameo.
Despite being set on Mars there were no Ice Warriors but they do get a mention by the Doctor.
The music used here is superb with it being solemn as the Doctor walked away from the crew as history had already decided their fate before changing his mind.
Well done is the dialogue between the Doctor and Adelaide as he revealed her legacy.
Waters of Mars is especially well done with the last fifteen minutes but I hated that after the Doctor saved her life, Adelaide killed herself to preserve history. A recent Big Finish story I listened to was The Kingmaker in which the Fifth Doctor said the story changes but the ending stays the same. The Doctor changed Adelaide's story but it was Adelaide who decided the ending had to stay the same.
The trailer for David Tennant's swansong at the end is thrilling.
A dedication is made to the recently deceased former producer Barry Letts just as it was also done for Verity Lambert for the 2007 Christmas Special when she passed away at the time.
