Hello everyone,
Just found this on the Outpost Gallifrey website; thought it'd be worth posting it here:
The BBC's in-house newsletter Ariel today released information suggesting the identity of the second Doctor Who spinoff series that has bee rumored for the past several months, one that will bring back Elisabeth Sladen, who appeared last season in the episode "School Reunion". Says the item, "CBBC is developing a spin-off series from Doctor Who based on the adventures of investigative journalist Sarah Jane, played by Elizabeth Sladen, and to be written by Russell T Davies. Sladen, who originally played the Doctor's assistant in 1973, returned for the last series where she was seen vying with young Rose Tyler for the Doctor's affections." Outpost Gallifrey has heard from a variety of sources that the working title on this is Sarah Jane Investigates. There is currently no word as to when this might appear; we'll keep you posted.
Interesting news if true.

Personally I think it is a bit much. Russell T Davies will end up with too much on his plate and the quality of stories will decrease for all 3 series.

We don't want spin-offs we want proper Doctor Who. Can't RTD bog off and write his cosmic Eastenders series somewhere else.

A second spinoff and that is just from the BBC, there is still the non-BBC K-9 Adventures to think about as well.
Latest update: According to Outpost Gallifrey's source the plan is to record a pilot before launching a series (sounds like the exact situation with K-9 and Company) with a tentative broadcast date on New Year's Day.

More details from the BBC website:
New CBBC spin-off announced.
Russell T Davies has created The Sarah Jane Adventures, a brand new series for CBBC.
Set in present-day West London, the programme stars Elisabeth Sladen, continuing her much-loved role as Sarah Jane Smith.
Yasmin Paige will join her as Sarah's 13-year-old neighbour Maria.
A 60-minute special which will be broadcast in early 2007, with a series following later in the year.
In the special, Sarah and Maria form an unlikely alliance to fight evil alien forces at work in Britain, and against the scheming Ms Wormwood, played by Samantha Bond.
"I left Sarah Jane but she never left me," said Elisabeth. "I can't wait to return to Cardiff (where filming is based) to find out what's going to happen to her next."
"Children's TV has a fine history of fantasy thrillers," added Russell T Davies. "I loved them as a kid, and they were the very first things I ever wrote. So it's brilliant to return to such a vivid and imaginative area of television."
Filming on the special, written by Russell and Gareth Roberts, begins next month. It will be directed by Colin Teague and produced by Susie Liggat. The full series goes into production in spring 2007.

Oh for goodness sake, they`re doing they`re best to milk the popularity of the show dry aren`t they. Look at previous shows that have spin offs. You know what it leads to? Stories having to be spread amongst more shows. Its not more choice its a thinner spread of crap and to be honest the story writters are hardly good enough to pull of one good season of doctor who let alone spin offs. Here`s an idea, instead of spending all that money on spin offs, use it on the allegedly lacking special effects budget that prevents them from doing off world shows. Either that or a truck load of cocaine which either kick start the imaginations of cause OD`s meaning replacing them with a decent staff

A third spinoff was suggested to RTD. He called it "a spinoff too far". Yuk yuk yuk. Two is just right though.
Great thought, a Sarah series, but RTD has no idea how to write for her.

I take it this is going to be a kids show rather than a decent series. Shame.

I take it this is going to be a kids show rather than a decent series. Shame. And why can't a children's show also be a decent show? Admit it, you're going to watch the Pilot episode anyway just because it's Doctor Who related.
