You could, but nevermind. I remember reading somewhere that Hartnell saw Doctor Who as something of a retirement job, though this statement needs clarifying.

Yeah that sounds about right, I seem to remember also reading something like this. But at least he did take the job, I mean how popular was science-fiction in the 60s? Surely it would have been seen as a risky move?

know this is an old topic, but just wanted to add to watch diet also, not just drinking. my own father died of a massive heart attack in his driveway at age 46.
Kinda funny that in the 80's he'd freak me out by turning up 4th doc's theme on tv!
