When watching this episode I heard the Doctor mention Draconia from 'Frontier in Space' and Damos from 'The Daemons'.

When watching this episode I heard the Doctor mention Draconia from 'Frontier in Space' and Damos from 'The Daemons'. I think he mentioned something about the Kaled God of War, interesting Great episode tonight, the CGI was fantastic and although I got a bit confused towards the end (which should be ironed out during a re-watch) I thought it was brilliant.

An absolutely fantastic episode. The best so far. More that can be said for what's next in viewing the preview in my opinion.

I agree. The preview looked a bit rubbish in comparison but there's no point in judging the episode until we've seen all of it.

Once again I think I'm going to be in the minority. I've watched The Satan Pit twice now and I still don't know what ti make of it. Its an ok episode I think, nothing great, but yet theres sonething about the idea of "Satan" being there that doesn't work for me. Thats a direction for the show that I'm not happy with. I don't know what to truely think right now.

Well technically it wasn't Satan, it was another alien lifeform from which stemmed the idea of a beast from the depths of hell, much like Azal in 'The Daemons'.

Yes, I'm aware of that but for some reason that prevented my full enjoyment of the episode. Don't know why really.

In my opinion 'The Impossible Planet' and 'The Satan Pit' are the best two episodes of series two so far. Just a pity about what came afterwards.

okay I loved this ep, perhaps because my expectations were low but I found it gripping. The only real compliant is the cliffhanger, while it was GREAT, it made NO sense. We hear they are going into the black hole and then, well, they're not. We hear the thing say it's free and then coming ujp the pit at Ida and the Doctor from its POV and then, well, it's not. It was already free in Toby and that was just it's mind. The thing was still bodily in chains so it was not free and it was not rising up out of the pit. FAKE FAKE FAKE cliffhanger. The other thing is...if the doorway was closed before Idda and the Doc went to it...how'd TARDIS get down there?

How did the TARDIS get down there? There was an earthquake, the ground gave way, the TARDIS fell down the pit that resulted.
As for the cliffhanger? I think ALL cliffhangers are supposed to confuse the audience in some way or another.

But he has a point how could the beast take over toby if the gate was shut that means the mind and body would be trapped with it.
I enjoyed this one but the whole satan thing put me off it abit most likely cause i believe in god and so on.

Err, I don't think it's Azal from 'The Daemons', if it is an old character it's more likely to be Sutekh but I sincerely doubt that. Creepy though. I just saw " Impossible Planet" but read the description of " The Satan Pit" so I know what's supposed to happen. For those who haven't, click on "the beast" picture on this web site. www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/gallery/s2_08-09gallery/index.shtmlSure makes the orcs in " Lords of the Rings" look pretty good doesn't it? ;D

I wasn't that impressed by this episode. After the build up of the first part, I was expecting the "Devil" to do more than stand and stare. Good graphics and sets though.
