Pilot: Series opener. Pretty good opener to the series. A bit of a casting curio is that of John Wesley Shipp as the father of Barry Allen/The Flash as he himself played this character in a 1990s character. No doubt current Flash Grant Gustin will play the Flash’s father in a future TV series of The Flash. Not really surprised by the cameo of Stephen Amell as Arrow’s Oliver Queen. Could not believe that Mardon called himself God. Absolutely disgusted by this declaration. Intriguing that Dr Wells is not cripple at all and at a secret place he looks at a newspaper article of the Flash from…..2024!

Mark Hamill will play the Trickster in an upcoming episode of The Flash to be shown in 2015. It would not be the first time that Hamill plays this character as he done so before in the 1990s The Flash series starring John Wesley Shipp as the title character. Shipp incidentally plays Barry Allen/The Flash’s father in the new series. However since the two The Flash series are distinct from each other Hamill’s portrayal of The Trickster this time around would not exactly be a flow-on to when he played him in the 1990s series.

Fastest Man Alive: Episode 2. With Joe still getting used to Barry’s abilities as the Flash we get intriguing look through flashbacks about Joe’s tasks in raising Barry after the arrest and his imprisonment of his father. Good adversary in Danton Black who has the ability to clone himself culminating to how he got defeated by The Flash. Following the revelation about Dr Wells at the end of the previous episode, the pilot, we come to understand he would go to any lengths to protect Barry/The Flash but it was still shocking that this reasoning sees him killing Stagg in order to stop Stagg from exploiting Barry/The Flash.

Things You Can’t Outrun: Episode 3. The episode title is explained by The Flash and its meaning is definitely well appreciated by me. Fascinating villain of that of a metahuman who can control poison gases. We see flashbacks leading to Ronnie Raymond’s demise but I am getting the feeling he is not as dead as we are led to believe. Latest intrigue about Dr Wells ends this episode as we see him watching a surveillance video of Barry getting struck by lightning in his lab.

Going Rogue: Episode 4. Another crossover with Arrow as Felicity pops into town to see Barry. Guest stars Wentworth Miller who was very good as the villain Leonard Snart and he uses a cryonic gun that was built by Cisco. Somehow it felt satisfying that Snart just walked off. After all a good villain should not be disposed of too quickly and an intriguing that this episode ends with his conversation with his former partner Mick.

Plastique: Episode 5. Fascinating metahuman that appears here that of Bette Sans Souci and the episode title refers to her as she has the ability to turn anything into an explosive. It is too bad that she got killed by General Wade Eiling. Intriguing that this ends with a flashback to five years previously when we see Gorilla Grodd and that Wells telling him he has plans for him. Good narration from Barry about friendships and pain, lessons I personally have the full appreciation of.

The Flash Is Born: Season 1, Episode 6. Barry is reunited with a high school bully Tony Woodward who is now a new enemy of the Flash. Coincidentally saw this episode not long after the Selfie finale I Woke Up Like This which also had its lead character reuniting with a high school bully. However unlike the reunion in The Flash, the people concerned that got reunited in the Selfie finale are two people I like to spend time with together. As a victim of high school bullying myself I do wonder how many of those bullies have regretted what they did to me back then. One thing for certain here is that Tony absolutely has no regrets bullying Barry at school which makes Barry as the Flash defeat of Tony very satisfying for him. Of course it can only be truly satisfying if Tony knew it was Barry under the Flash’s mask. Barry therefore reveals to Tony that he is the Flash just as Tony is in tight incarceration. Hopefully there is no way for Tony to get out of there in order for Barry’s secret to be preserved. Startling that Barry inadvertently gave Iris the idea to call his alter ego The Flash. The episode ends when Joe’s researches into Barry’s mother’s murder got stolen from him right under his nose by an unidentified metahuman and making his threat on Iris’ life if Joe did not desist from his investigation.
Meanwhile The Flash has been renewed for a second season.

Power Outage: Season 1, Episode 7. The episode title refers to Farooq Gibran, a man who has the ability to siphon electrical energy thanks to the accident caused by Dr Wells a few years before. As a result of an encounter with Gibran, Barry loses his power as the Flash. After being a villain in the previous episode The Flash Is Born, Tony is released from his incarceration by Dr Wells as a distraction to Gibran but Gibran ends up killing him. In contrast to Tony previously being a villain not so long ago, was saddened that he met his end here. Thankfully Barry got his powers back in time to defeat Gibran. Meanwhile the Clock King (Robert Knepper reprising the character he previously played in Arrow) holds a hostage situation at the police station with Joe, Iris and Eddie among the hostages. Not bad resolution to both plots and should not be a surprise at the end that Dr Wells would take Gibran’s blood.

Flash vs Arrow: Season 1, Episode 8. The major crossover event between The Flash & Arrow begins with this episode. It begins with Grant Gustin saying previously on The Flash & Arrow. However all the scenes shown in the reprise including Flash’s meeting with Arrow in Starling City and Felicity’s earlier visit to Central City are all strictly from The Flash and none from the Arrow series. Just as the Flash investigates new metahuman Roy Bivolo, Oliver, Felicity and Diggle are in Central City to investigate a lead to a killer who uses lethal boomerangs. Soon after the mishap with a boomerang by Cisco, the boomerang killer curiously gets forgotten about in the rest of the episode. Quite terrifying as a result of being infected by Bivolo’s powers, Barry gets into a rage with everyone and unfortunately seems to have made irreparable damage to Iris’ viewpoint of the Flash to the extent that she asked the Flash not to contact her again. The episode title is not called that without reason as the two heroes got into a fight whilst Flash was still in his rage state. Not a bad resolution to this situation. Oliver surprisingly bumped into an ex who was previously seen in Arrow in flashbacks and the mother of his son that he still does not know about having been paid off by his late mother Moira to keep quiet about. Hopefully Oliver gets to find out about his son in future. This episode was promoted as the first part of a crossover event between The Flash & Arrow with this event being concluded in Arrow. However the end of this Flash episode does not indicate whatsoever that this crossover was going to continue as the surprising ending relates strictly to situations here in The Flash. Curiously Felicity asked Caitlin for help in investigating Sara/Black Canary’s murder. So maybe Caitlin would make a cameo in Arrow to let Felicity know what she found out in her investigation of Sara’s murder. However a Caitlin cameo in Arrow could easily be circumvented just by Caitlin sending Felicity an email of what she found out in her investigation.

The Man In The Yellow Suit: Season 1, Episode 9. Originally aired on my birthday December 9 2014. Surprised to see in the credits that this episode guest starred Amanda Pays who had played Dr Tina McGee in the 1990s The Flash series which had starred John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen/The Flash. Shipp, of course, is now Barry’s father in this series and he too is in this episode but there is no reunion between him and Amanda Pays in this episode. Amanda Pays played here Dr Tina McGee which was also the name of her character in the 1990s series but since the two The Flash series are distinctive from each other it is not quite a reprisal for her from that earlier series. Harrowing time for Caitlin for her to find out that Ronnie is alive but not quite the reunion she hoped. Quite surprising that Ronnie saved The Flash from the episode title character. Barry finally tells Iris about his feelings for her. I do sympathise with him about feelings and the timing of expressing that feeling as well as his need to stay in the same city. Preaching to the choir. What an ending which shows that Dr Wells also has a yellow suit.

Revenge of the Rogues: Season 1, Episode 10. This episode is a reunion with two Prison Break alums with Wentworth Miller back as Leonard Snart and he is joined here by his Prison Break brother Dominic Purcell as Snart’s new partner Mick Rory. In Prison Break they were undeservedly in prison but their characters here in The Flash are definitely ones who belong in prison and what a fantastic villainous team that they made. Incidentally another Prison Break alum Robert Knepper was in an earlier Flash episode Power Outage in which he played the Clock King a role he originally played in Arrow. Surprising how this episode ends which indicates that this is not the last time we see of Snart and Rory.

Rogue Time: Season 1, Episode 16. US The Tomorrow People alum Peyton List guest stars here. She is not the only US The Tomorrow People alum in The Flash as her former co-star from that series Robbie Amell has a recurring role in The Flash. Here she plays Lisa Snart, sister of Leonard Snart. Going back in time accidentally to the day before meant unfortunately that Iris' stated feelings about Barry has now been unsaid and that is why Barry did not get anyway with her in this new timeline. Good thing about the new timeline is that Cisco is alive and did not get killed by Dr Wells as it happened in the previous timeline. Bad thing about it for Cisco is that he and his brother got taken hostage by Snart and Heat Wave and the brothers got released when Cisco had to tell Snart, The Flash's true identity. All things considered Snart now knowing that The Flash is Barry did not come out as badly as one would expect, well at least for now. Brilliant of Caitlin coming up with an explanation of Barry's latest expression of her feelings for Iris to Iris and Eddie as that of lightning psychosis. Absolutely unbelievable that Iris and Eddie actually bought that.

In an interview with the Sydney Sunday Telegraph tv guide of April 12-18 Robbie Amell (Firestorm) talked about his upcoming appearance in the final two episodes of The Flash season 1. “The two episodes I’m going back for are the second-last and the finale of the first season. So there are definitely going to be some big things happening over there.”

In an interview with the Sydney Sunday Telegraph tv guide, Robbie Amell (Firestorm in The Flash) talked about his cousin and Arrow star Stephen Amell. Robbie said that it was “dumb luck” that he and Stephen ended up in the same career path.
“We were very close when we were young, but there was a seven-year age gap so when he was 15 and I was eight, we didn’t really have much in common. Then we both got into acting on our own and met back up in LA and quickly became close again.”

Rogue Air: Penultimate episode of season 1. Special Guest stars cousins Stephen and Robbie Amell as Arrow and Firestorm respectively. Good to see the real-life Amell cousins here as well as seeing their names together for the Special Guest Star credit. However the appearance of Arrow here is out of sync with continuity with the Arrow series. The most recent Arrow episode This Is Your Sword shown before this Flash episode had Oliver in a situation that was in no way for him to get out of for him to help The Flash here. From what I read after watching Rogue Air, this episode took place before the aforementioned Arrow episode. This episode also sees the return of Peyton List as Leonard Snart’s sister Lisa and Cisco finally gives her a name that of the Golden Glider. Robbie Amell and Peyton List are both alums of US The Tomorrow People and they are finally in the same The Flash episode but neither of them have anything to do with each other here so not quite a reunion for these two Tomorrow People alums. In fact Rogue Air was aired on May 12 2015 exactly one year and one week after The Tomorrow People ended its run on May 5 2014. In hindsight should have known that Snart was not going to keep his word about transporting the metahuman prisoners. Impressive battle of The Flash with Arrow and Firestorm against Dr. Wells. With just one episode left of The Flash season 1 wonder what else there is to do with Wells with the season about to come to an end.
