So, what do you think of the Third Doctor? I give him 9/10.

9/ 10 here too. He was the first ever Doctor I saw on screen, when the BBC repeated Spearhead From Space back in 1999. He has such authority and really makes you want to watch him. Pity so many of his stories were Earthbound because it would have been nice to see him out and about a bit more.

Well I will withold my vote for now, it will be somewhere in the 8-10/10 area. For me it just seemed that each new regeneration was an improvement of the previous one! I probably seen the most stories of this doctor also!

For me 6/10. Pertwee played a good Doctor but he's missing something of the later Doctors for me. I still enjoy his stories though.

If you ask me Jon Pertwee's best season was his first, in my opinion. Well written stories there especially 'Inferno' and 'Spearhead from Space'. However I think his 3rd Season was a bit of a let down, the best bit of that being 'Day of the Daleks', the worst being 'The Time Monster'. However things improved a bit on his 4th Season, though I think he could have been given a slightly better send off than the one he received in 'Planet of the Spiders'. Also I think that 'The Daemons' is a bit overrated for my liking. Finally the concept of exile on Earth was an interesting one too.

I have a soft spot for The Daemons because it was the first Dr Who novelisation I ever read.

I personally think that 'The Daemons' is overrated, I think it's boring in other words.

The Daemons isn't that bad.
I'd give Pertwee 9/10. He always had such authority and a commanding presence.

Daemons is the only story where I forget what went on between viewings. So it's almost like a new story, so I get a bit excited, then I remember why it didn't stick in my memory. Just not that memorable I guess. All the Pertwees take patience though. The reverence for it baffles me.

Agreed with magnusgreel, why does it have such a good reputation?

8/10 I have decided. Overall he was a great Doctor to watch! I don't think the Earth-bound stories hindered his role at all.

From what I heard the Earthbound stories were a result of the expensive switch from black-&-white to colour. They had to save the budget somehow.

From what I heard the Earthbound stories were a result of the expensive switch from black-&-white to colour. They had to save the budget somehow. As I recall, it was the outgoing producers decision to keep the stories on Earth. They felt they had had too many 'spacey' stories over the past season or so and wanted to focus more on stories set on Earth. I think it was Terence Dicks who said that he felt Earth-bound stories would prove to be more scary in that the viewers were more afraid of seeing familiar places under threat, rather than a planet a million miles away. However I'm sure it had something to do with financing the series as well, there was always an issue or two surrounding the rather slack budget the show was given..

They (the BBC) were planning to cancel Doctor Who after Pertwee's first season, however they didn't.
