I recall reading that Tom Baker had real troubles for a number of years because everyone associated him with Doctor Who, and he had trouble getting roles that weren't sci-fi or eccentric.

Its going back to the early 90's when I read that. Prior to that he got a lot of TV ad voiceovers but (again as I recall) hardly any TV spots.
Thats all changed lately with Little Britain, and Monarch of the Glenn (which I watched purely for Tom).

As far as any Doctor Who actor is concerned, I only watch something starring them if it's good. Peter Davison in 'The Last Detective' for example.

The best: Caves of Androzani (Holmes is on fire here, and Davison is just the Doctor at his best!)
The worst: Arc of Infinity (So offensively bland - the Timelords used to be such a great idea...)
The plain: Enlightenment

Speaking of 'Caves of Androzani', it's a crying shame that the Magma Creature is just unbelievable. Each great classic has one major fault.

I also think that Peter Davison's opener "Castrovalva" was a good one too.
