 Series 5 Writers!
« Thread Started on Sept 8, 2009, 9:15am »

So aside from Mr Moff who is head writer and will be credited with probably 3-4 episodes for series 5, who else is confirmed/speculated?

According to Wikipedia, Gareth Roberts is set to write an episode and it looks like Richard Curtis is to write one as well...

Neil Gaiman has been rumoured as a writer for a while, but I doubt it will come to fruition.

So any others?

To expand on my previous post:

Steven Moffat Confirmed (Obviously)
Richard Curtis Confirmed
Gareth Roberts Confirmed by his agent
Mark Gatiss Assumed Suggested to be the Writer of the Churchill/Daleks episode
Neil Gaiman Rumoured Sadly, it seems that this rumour won't come to fruition. I hope he does write a DW episode eventually though...
Paul Cornell Desired Contributed 3 Brilliant episodes so far, so it would be wonderful to see him add another one provided he hasn't been too busy with other projects.
James Moran Desired Fantastic contributions to both Torchwood and Doctor Who, I would love to see what other episodes he could think up.
Joseph Lidster Desired He has written a lot of material for the spin-offs as well as DW audios, so I say let him write an episode of the Seires proper.
Ben Aaronovitch Desired I have seen some of his interviews on the 7th Doctor dvds and I think he would be an interesting choice to write a New Series episode.
Catherine Tregenna Potential Writer? They need to get in another female writer (other than Helen Raynor) and considering her episodes of Torchwood, I think Tregenna could write well for Doctor Who
Rona Munro Potential Writer? Speaking of Women, would the writer of Survival do well for a new series episode? She is Scottish which always helps with Moffat's bias :P
Tom MacRae Potential Writer? After his series 2 episodes, he apparently was lined up for an episode in Series 4. I'm sure Moffat would want to clearly choose his own episodes for his own series, but if Gatiss's episode which was also originally for series 4 is going to be used, then surely there could be room for Tom's episode...?

Anyway, so that's my list. How would other's see it?

An excellent list, and all perfectly reasonable suggestions to write for Who. Of course, you have 12 writers for a 13 episode series, I think at least three have to go. Something makes me think Gaiman, Aaronovitch and Munro are the most likely candidates.

Where do the rumours of Gaiman writing an episode come from? You seem to think it has a degree of credibility so I assume its not the Sun or anything like that.

Gaiman was a strong rumour before Matt Smith was cast. When it was thought that Paterson Joseph could be the Doctor, the connection of Paterson being in Neverwhere (by Gaiman) and then appearing in Jekyll (by Moffat) there were connections made to the idea of Gaiman writing for PJ's Doctor.
Now obviously PJ is not the next actor to play the Doctor, but Gaiman writing an episode is still possible.

Yeah my last couple of writers were wishful thinking more than anything.

An article By Lizo Mzimba http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8333466.stm

In the article, he says that Moffat is writing 6 episodes of series 5 which is a fair amount!

Add to that 2 episodes from Gareth Roberts, at least 1 from Richard Curtis and potentially one from Mark Gatiss... that adds up to 10 out of the 13!

I have also been reading that Chris Chibnall is apparently lined up for 2 episodes. I'm not sure how that would fit into the line up with the other allocated episodes but nothing has been confirmed by the BBC yet (and probably won't for a fair while just yet) so it's all just speculation!
